The World Food Programme Somalia activities include food assistance for relief, emergency school feeding, nutrition and food assistance for assets creation through provision of in-kind and cash-based transfers.

Duties and Responsibilities


This position will report to the Food Systems Outcome Manager. S/he will manage a small team of 3-5 staff that will support the delivery of Outcome 2.

This support/coordination unit sits within the broader Resilient Livelihoods and Nutrition Team, that also comprises technical units responsible for the technical oversight and delivery of the 3 main components of Outcome 2 which are; support to smallholder farmer productivity, market access and linkages, and nutrition sensitive agriculture and value chains.

The Food Systems Coordinator will work closely with these technical teams, particularly the Activity Managers, as well as other outcome teams and support units including finance, administration, communications and supply chain, in order to support programme delivery.

Specific areas of focus for the Food Systems Coordinator will be:

  • To establish and maintain an efficient system for the development of donor funding proposals and reports, ensuring the efficient use of standardized information that can be tailored to specific donor requirements, while ensuring corporate reporting requirements.
    Related, establish and maintain systems that provide a real time and projected overview of funding levels and gaps for various programme components and budget lines.
  • Provide this information to inform decision making that allows efficient prioritization of available resources, advocacy for support to critical gaps, and avoidance of duplication.
  • In close collaboration with supply chain and resource management teams, establish and maintain systems for tracking of cash, food and non-food item
    commodities avaibility and distribution, ensuring efficient allocation, minimal losses and timely communication of resource (un)availability to field offices and partners.
  • Establish and support efficient systems for other business processes, including but not limited to partner agreement and review processes, commodity procurement, annual performance planning and others.
  • For all the above, over time, train and build capacity of national colleagues for the integration of systems and efficient business process management into standard roles and structures.
  • As required and in accordance with technical expertise, support policy dialogue and represent WFP in technical coordination fora.

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Education:First Degree in relevant studies: Development studies, international relations, economics is required.
  • Post graduate qualification is desirable or extensive relevant professional experience.
  • Advanced University degree in International Affairs, Economics, Nutrition/Health, Development studies or other field relevant to international development assistance will be an added advantage.
  • Language:International Professional: Fluency (level C) in English language. Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official UN language: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, and/or WFP’s working language, Portuguese.
