Standard Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area. Having a University Degree in Nutrition, Public Health Nutrition, Public Health or related field will be an added advantage.

    Languages:

  • Fluency (level C) in both oral and written communication in both Swahili and English Language.

    Organizational Context

    These jobs are found in Regional Bureaus (RBs), Country Offices (COs), Area/Field Offices (AOs/FOs). Job holders typically report to a Programme Policy Officer or Head of Field Office.

    At this level, job holders are expected to demonstrate responsibility and initiative to respond independently to various queries with only general guidance. There is a requirement to use judgment in dealing with unforeseen operational problems daily. Job holders are expected to manage resources and coach and coordinate support staff.

    Job Purpose

    To provide effective specialized support and technical analyses to policy and programme activities that effectively meet food assistance needs.

    Key Accountabilities (not all-inclusive)

  • Provide technical support and assist in the development and implementation of various nutrition, HIV and school feeding-related activities and processes supporting alignment with wider programme policies and guidelines.

  • Provide specialized project management support to nutrition, HIV, school feeding programmes to ensure that the various activities are performed within the established targets following WFP’s policies and procedures.

  • Prepare a range of reports and data analysis and presentations on nutrition, HIV and school feeding policies and programmes and highlight trends/issues ensuring deliverables adhere to corporate standards and quality control.

  • Ensure and/or perform accurate, timely recording of data on nutrition, HIV and school feeding, and consistency of information presented to stakeholders.

  • Liaise with internal counterparts to support effective collaboration, implementation, and monitoring of ongoing project activities.

  • Coordinate and communicate with local partners, agencies, NGOs and government institutions to perform accurate nutrition, HIV, school feeding and food security analyses
    and to ensure efficient delivery of food assistance.

  • Support the capacity building of WFP staff, cooperating partners and national government on nutrition programmes and policies ensuring deliverables adhere to corporate standards and quality control.

  • Provide support for operational partnerships, including inter-agency collaboration, to ensure a strong multi-sectoral response to nutrition, HIV and school feeding.

  • Coordinate and communicate with partners and WFP field staff for timely and accurate reporting of nutrition, HIV and school feeding activities including data entry into the corporate M&E platforms as relevant, provide inputs for corporate and donor reporting and ensure the visibility of WFP support is enhanced.

  • Coordinate the organisation of meetings and workshops with partners, and maintain up to date database of partners working on nutrition, HIV and school feeding.

    Key Accountabilities Continued II

  • Act as a point of contact for resolution of a range of operational queries and problems on nutrition, HIV and school feeding.

  • Oversee and/or review the work of other support staff as relevant, providing practical advice and guidance, to contribute to delivering objectives to agreed standards and deadlines.

  • Follow standard emergency preparedness practices to ensure WFP can quickly respond and deploy needed resources to affected areas at the onset of the crisis.

  • Perform any other assigned duties as required.

    Other Specific Job Requirements

    Experience:

  • Minimum of six years’ experience working in nutrition and/or public health related activities.

  • Experience in implementing nutrition, HIV, school feeding programmes, working with Government and engagement in policy discussions.

  • Experience and exposure to working with multi-disciplinary teams (i.e., nutrition, VAM, etc.).

  • Experience in conducting nutrition data analysis and report writing.

  • Experience in contributing to the development of nutrition-related policies, strategies, guidelines/protocols, manuals.
