  • We are seeking a dynamic Communications Officer to support the organization’s written and visual communications portfolio.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Under the direct supervision of the Head of Communications, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Produce communication materials according to specific briefs, in consultation with the relevant colleagues;

  • Support production and promotion of donor visibility materials, in line with requirements specific to each donor, tied to activities under the (interim) country strategic plan;

  • Ensure that WFP (and donor) branding, messaging and style policies are reflected in the design, formatting and content of all communications materials, including publications, donor briefs, presentations, factsheets and digital assets;

  • Support the design, delivery and promotion of multi-channel communications campaigns, including digital and social media content, aligning with donor priorities where possible;

  • Work with colleagues in the monitoring and evaluation/beneficiary feedback units to improve WFP’s communication with beneficiaries and other partners, including the use of multiple direct and indirect (i.e. partner) channels to successfully deliver harmonized, consistent messaging;

  • Support content collection through prioritizing and coordinating field visits;

  • Use data from WFP and other authoritative sources to develop easily digestible key messages and prioritize sophisticated information into visual representations;

  • Conduct communications training (including on transparency requirements, content collection, interview approaches) for cooperating partners, in coordination with the partnership’s unit;

  • Provide technical advice and mentorship to the procurement unit for communication material tendering and procurement;

  • Ensure the graphic quality of
    physically produced communications material through technical review and inputs;

  • Support in improving staff and area office visibility and branding in accordance with corporate guidelines;

  • Act as the focal person for business support processes related to the communication unit;

  • Work closely with the information management team to ensure all the country office visual reports and dashboards are consistent with the overall brand;

  • Support the procurement unit in market assessment to improve and involve local/host country vendors;

  • Support relevant colleague’s in documenting and reporting country strategic objectives, ensuring the information is communicated in a clear, visually pleasing manner;

  • Provide additional communications related duties and event support, as required and assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education

  • University degree in Computer science, Information technology, Communications or any other relevant field.

    Experience

  • At least three years of professional experience in communication and developing information products, including at least one year in graphic design. Adobe Creative experience is desirable.

    Language

  • Proficiency in English is required.

    Knowledge & Skills

  • Sound theoretical understanding of communications concepts & principles with a broad knowledge of standard methodologies, techniques and processes;

  • Ability to rapidly analyse and integrate diverse information;

  • Sound understanding of visual communications and the ability to use graphic design software to optimally present information;

  • Excellent oral, editing and writing as well as visualization skills;

  • Well organized and detail oriented;

  • Ability to work independently or with a team;

  • Ability to lead, coach and motivate other team members in the field of visual communications.

  • Experience working with UN agencies, local and external partners in the host country is an asset.
