Organizational Context

WFP is seeking to recruit a dynamic and experienced Programme Assistant to support relief, refugee, and recovery activities under Gondar office.

This position will be based in Gondar Office as part of WFP’s Program team, the position holder will be working across units including programme, monitoring and evaluation, nutrition, reporting and communication – as well as engaging regularly with WFP’s government and NGO partners working in Gondar locations.

Job Purpose

To perform specialized and/or standardized policy and program-related processes and activities to support the effective delivery of assistance packages. Reporting Line: Under the overall supervision of the Program Policy Officer, this position will report directly to the Program Policy Officer (Relief/refugee, nutrition, and recovery)

Key Accountabilities (not all-inclusive)

• Perform specialized and/or standardized processes and activities within the specific technical area of work supporting alignment with wider program policies and guidelines.

• Assess project performance including utilization of resources and participate in discussions on new or revised procedures and practices.

• Conduct monitoring missions to ensure that the right entitlements go to the right beneficiaries.

• Monitor pre-screening on the project site and sensitize the beneficiaries on entitlements, beneficiary selection criteria, and WFP’s objectives.

• Work closely with implementing partners and ensure that Cooperating Partner (CP) reports are received, reviewed, and captured them into the COMET platform.

• Perform accurate, timely recording of data (e.g., Cooperating Partner (CP) periodic reports, CPs invoices) following corporate standards and guidelines.

• Prepare distribution lists and cycle creation requests for relief (Cash-based Transfer and in-kind) based on the distribution plan and ultimately share them with the AO management for their onward submission.

• Regularly follow up with partners on stock balances, and expiry dates, guide CPs on distributions, and obtain reports as required.

• Work and exchange information with internal counterparts to support effective collaboration, implementation, and monitoring of ongoing project activities

• Within the specific area of responsibility, compile data and support analysis and preparation of reports to support operational decision-making.

• Maintain accurate records, within the specific technical area of work. Act as a point of contact for resolution of general operational queries requesting assistance where necessary.

• Follow standard emergency preparedness practices to ensure WFP can quickly respond and deploy needed resources to affected areas at the onset of the crisis.

• Perform other related duties as required.

Desired Experiences for Entry Into the Role

• Has experience utilizing computers, including Microsoft Office package (e.g. Word, Excel) other standard software packages system

• Has familiarity with program monitoring evaluation processes

• Has experience with different types of external stakeholders national and sub-national levels

• Knowledge
the UN rules, procedures regulations would an asset.

Standard Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Completion of secondary school education. BSC degree in Nutrition, social science, Rural development, development studies and related field

    Experience:

  • Five years of progressively responsible support experience in emergency assistance and humanitarian programs with good knowledge and experience working in relief, nutrition, SafetyNet, M&E, or livelihood-related program activities.

    Language:

  • Proficiency in both oral and written communication in English and the local language is a requirement.
