    Organizational Background:

    The United Nations World Food Programme is the world’s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide.

    Every day, WFP works worldwide to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry and that the poorest and most vulnerable, particularly women and children, can access the nutritious food they need.

    The World Food Programme Somalia activities include food assistance for relief, emergency school feeding, nutrition and food assistance for assets creation through provision of in-kind and cash-based transfers.

    The Somalia Food Security Cluster (FSC) is the primary source of information on the on-going humanitarian response to address food insecurity and facilitate the development of a strategic vision.

    To accomplish this, the FSC is staffed by a combination of volunteers and professional staff.

    For the implementation of the cluster’s strategic priorities, a cluster secretariat has been created which will be staffed by a small team of professionals with specific responsibilities.

    This position is open to qualified Kenyan nationals. Female candidates in particular, are encouraged to apply.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Under the direct supervision of the Food Security Cluster Coordinator, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Lead in the development and dissemination of relevant guidelines in consultation with other clusters and partners;
  • Conduct capacity building trainings, workshops and reviews/benchmarking;
  • Work with partners in ensuring there are key policies and guideline documents various themes;
  • Establish a Common Complaints Handling Mechanism in collaboration with other partners;
  • Participate in consultative meetings with sub-clusters to identify and address key protection and gender-based violence issues;
  • Actively participate in information sharing and tracking common/crosscutting issues with other clusters;
  • Attend the Food Security Cluster regional meetings and work with the Vice Co-ordinators and partners in identifying and documenting emerging
    good practices on cross cutting themes and provide input to the overall strategic guidance of response;
  • In collaboration with partners, conduct Food Security Cluster rapid assessments;
  • Work with partners in identifying key innovations for cross cutting issues and advocate for funding support;
  • Provide training and remote support to FSC Vice Co-coordinators and other partners as required;
  • Perform any other related duties as required.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Education:

  • Advanced University degree in International Affairs, Economics, Social Sciences, Development Studies or other field relevant to international development assistance, or First University Degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses.

    Experience:

  • At least three years of progressively responsible support experience in development, law, humanitarian work, social services, gender, monitoring and evaluation, coordination and food security.
  • Protection and/or accountability to affected populations specific experience is desirable.

    Language:

  • Fluency in both oral and written communication in English is a requirement.

    Knowledge & Skills:

  • Knowledge of the Food security cluster, Humanitarian project cycle, capacity development including training are desirable;
  • Specialized knowledge of information management best practices, techniques and processes in the context of humanitarian work;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including substantive analysis and report writing;
  • Hands-on relevant experience in the UN or INGOs is desirable.
