Project Summary:


The Darfur Monitoring Project establishes a third-party monitoring system to collect data related to the outputs and lessons learned from humanitarian programs in Darfur, Sudan, funded by USAID.

This program increases access to independent, verifiable data related to OFDA programming in Darfur.

Position Summary:

  • The Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Specialist will provide short-term technical support and technical input into the design of the monitoring plan, data collection methods, and questionnaires related to data collected about WASH activities during Year 3 of the Darfur Monitoring Project.
  • The WASH specialist will assist in the analysis of data collected for health activities as necessary, and will work with the project team on developing and refining deliverables under the project.
  • The WASH Specialist may travel infrequently to Khartoum, Sudan. Estimated level of effort is approximately 20 days per year.

    Responsibilities:

  • Review project related documents, including but not limited to monitoring plans, project selection documents, and monthly reports. Reviews will be conducted on an ad-hoc basis and should be accompanied by recommended improvements.
  • Review and improve the WASH data collection training plan.
  • Plan and execute the WASH data collection training for enumerators and office staff.
  • Planning may be conducted off-site. Training should be conducted on-site with trainees to the extent possible. The WASH Specialist is expected to remotely support MSI staff on the ground if in-person training is not possible.
  • Conduct periodic review of WASH site visit forms. The WASH specialist must ensure questions are properly structured and that the content of the WASH site visit forms address USAID requirements. A review must be conducted prior to the start of field data collection and immediately after the pilot phase.
  • Conduct periodic review of WASH-related data collected in the field. Review should focus on ensuring responses are appropriate, pertinent and reasonable.
  • Contribute to and review monthly reports. Contributions should focus on the analysis of WASH-related field collected data and lessons learned. Reviews will begin with the pilot phase report and continue through the end of the program in April 2018.
  • Contribute to Lessons Learned reports, focusing on WASH.
  • Contribute to data quality assessment (DQA) reports, focusing on WASH.
  • Serve as primary DMP resource related to WASH-related issues, questions and concerns.

    Qualifications:

  • Ten (10) years of experience in the humanitarian, transition, or development sector working in the WASH field. Two (2) years of experience should be from conflict zones.
  • Previous experience in Sudan is highly desirable.
  • Advanced degree in public health, engineering, or a related field is required.
  • Excellent knowledge of WASH, oral and written communication skills, and analytic skills.
  • Fluency in English is required.
