Org. Setting and Reporting

The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN headquarters in Africa and the representative office of the Secretary-General.

We support programme implementation of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Human Settlements Programme (UNHABITAT) globally, as well as other UN offices in Kenya, by providing administrative, conference and information services (www.unon.org).

This post is in the Division of Conference Services (DCS), Conference Support Section. Under the supervision of the Chief, Conference Support Section, the incumbent will:

Responsibilities

  • Take a lead role in the designing and conducting in-depth and thematic evaluation of programmes: prepare study design of evaluations;
  • Prepare and validate evaluation instruments; conduct interviews/discussions with service providers;
  • Analyze information collected from various sources and derive findings, conclusions and formulate recommendations;
  • Conduct consultations with service providers on evaluation findings and recommendations;
  • Provide advisory services to the sections/division on evaluation and statistical questions, including implementation of evaluation recommendations;
  • Monitor performance through key performance indicators (KPIs) and evaluation of results-based management (RBM) outputs, efficiency and quality of conference services;
  • Monitor operational data from all core conference management information systems regularly and flags potential issues to relevant stakeholders to ensure the quality of Division’s data.
  • Research analyze, and present information gathered from diverse sources.
  • Assist in policy development, including the review and analysis of issues and trends, preparation of evaluations or other research activities and studies.
  • Assist in assessing, prioritizing and managing the enterprise risk management framework of the division.
  • Build Data Excellence Models to serve as the foundation of data driven decision making.
  • Identify reporting requirements for the performance targets;
  • Take lead in developing surveys, including reviewing, analyzing and/or interpretation of responses and subsequently produce relevant reports, conclusions and/or recommendations.
  • Take lead in business analyses and reporting requirements in day to day activities; supervise and train staff as required.
  • Finalize the structure and archiving rules for and maintain an on-line repository of all officially reported statistics with their source data in an easily accessible format
  • Carry out business process analysis and propose improvements.
  • Perform other duties as required.

    Education
  • Advanced university degree in business administration, information technology, computer science, statistics or related field.
  • A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

    Work Experience
  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, administration, information technology, programme evaluation or related area is required.
  • Proven experience with results based management reporting, monitoring and data analysis is required.
  • At least (2) two years of experience in business process analysis and workflow optimization is desirable. Experience with official statistics and data visualization tools is desirable.
  • Mastery of MS Office, SQL, PowerPoint and/or Business Intelligence Is required.

    Languages
  • English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat.
  • For the post advertised, fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
