Ukulima Sacco Society Limited, a SASRA licensed Deposit Taking Sacco in Kenya with its
Headquaters in Nairobi and FOSA Branch Network in Kisumu, Mombasa, Eldoret, Embu,Nakuru and

1. Finance Manager - REF UCSC /HR/E/05/2019 – 1 Position

Purpose of the Job
Responsible for sound financial management of the Society in line with the Strategic
Business and Financial Plans and International Prudential Accounting Standards

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities are as follows:

I. Managerial Roles and Responsibilities:

a) Formulate, implement, and review financial policies, procedures and reporting systems to
ensure effective internal control and accountability;

b) Manage and supervise all accounting activities and financial aspects of the Society’s
operations, particularly as they relate to cash flow and financial viability;

c) Develop and implement appropriate financial strategies and departmental operating systems
that reflect the Society’s goals and objectives;

d) Develop and coordinate timely preparation of the Society’s budget in liaison with other
Departmental Heads and accurately aligning the budgetary provisions to the strategic plan in
conformity with prevailing financial and accounting standards and practices to prevent
misallocation of resources;

e) Keep a careful track of cash flow, submit cash needs forecasts each month, prepare trend
analysis on the monthly profit and loss account, identify and explain significant changes from
month to month from budget/forecasts;

f) Advise the Society on the financial viability of proposed investments and ensure that Fixed
assets and stocks are accounted for properly;

g) Prepare business plans, financial models and undertake the valuation of projects;

h) Develop and implement strategies related to treasury and tax issues including Financing,
banking, cash management, and tax planning;

i) Liaise with Internal Audit and Risk department on major issues impacting business performance
and requiring adjustments to management systems;

j) Ensures effective frameworks and mechanisms are in place for monitoring of the Society’s
Financial performance;

k) Continually review the Finance manuals and policy documents to ensure compliance with the
strategy and the present challenges;

l) Budget and conduct trend forecasting to guide the Society’s Board to achieve business
objectives;

m) Provide adequate financial resources for business operations;

n) Management of costs in order to achieve the Society’s business growth;

o) Compile the Society’s financial reports;

p) Perform financial analysis, report and interpret to assist in decision making;

q) Identify training needs for direct reports;

r) Participate in the recruitment of staff within the department; and

s) Mentor and coach staff

II. Operational Roles and Responsibilities

a) Authorize payments;

b) Advise the Board on financial matters;

c) Ensure
tax compliance in all the operations of the Society;

d) Ensure timely implementation of relevant audit recommendations;

e) Ensure compliance with financial and accounting standards and regulations;

f) Coordinate external audit activities;

g) Implement effective controls for prudent use of financial resources;

h) Conduct appraisals on all projects to ensure positive returns on investments; and

i) Implement technological innovations for sound financial management practices.

III. Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time

Key Result Areas:

The jobholder’s accountability areas are outlined as follows:

a) Improved financial productivity/Performance & statutory ratios;

b) Timely availability and reliability of financial information;

c) Cash flow planning and management;

d) Effective systems for monitoring budget performance;

e) Accurate financial controls;

f) Effective utilization of resources;

g) Effective operational cost control of the department’s financial resources;

h) Successful implementation of quality control standards for services offered by the department;

i) Effective supervision of employees assigned to the department;

j) Strategic Plan Actualization.

Knowledge and Skills Required:

a) Master’s degree qualifications in business related field shall be an added advantage;

b) A minimum of Bachelor’s degree qualifications in Commerce or Business Administration in
Accounting/Finance or related field;

c) A minimum of eight (8) years of related work experience Finance function with a minimum 4
years relevant experience in a senior position in a similar organization;

d) Must have CPA (K) qualifications and be a member of ICPAK/ACCA;

e) Valid Police Clearance certificate

f) Must have ability to plan, organize, implement and evaluate departmental goals;

g) Should have strong analytical skills, result oriented, effective people management and conflict
resolution skills;

h) Must have high standards of integrity and ethical practice;

i) Must be capable of functioning effectively both as a team player and a team leader;

j) Should have problem solving and decision making abilities and an effective communicator;

k) Should demonstrate ability to identify and respond to risk areas within the department;

l) Must have knowledge in use of an accounting ICT system and Ms. Office packages;

m) Understanding of the Society’s business and financial processes;

n) Commitment to the Society’s Vision and Values.
