Purpose of the Job

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the position is responsible for leading business growth, market
expansion, promotion and maintenance of positive customer relationships to achieve the Society’s
goals and objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities are as follows:

I. Managerial Roles and Responsibilities:

a) Formulate, implement, and review business development and Marketing policies, procedures

and reporting systems to enhance growth and profitability;

b) Ensure that the Society has effective Marketing, Customer Service, Public Relations and
Corporate Social Responsibility strategies and plans;

c)Implement marketing strategies to raise current market share, increase sales and support
achievement of the Society’s goals and objectives;

d) Design and develop products and services that will satisfy various market segments based on
market research findings;

e) Identify market niches and craft appropriate strategies for reaching existing and potential
members in the society;

f) Provide strategic guidance on marketing, communications and business development
opportunities that are effective and generate positive, measureable results;

g) Identify opportunities to offer new services or enhance existing services in order to attract highvalue work and enhance value provided to customers;

h) Undertake continuous research on market trends, customer behavior, business environment
and recommending appropriate actions;

i) Evaluate the effectiveness of advertising and trade promotion programs in accomplishing
marketing and sales objectives;

j) Effectively implement marketing performance monitoring process in order to ensure continues
growth in marketing performance;

k)Identify marketing opportunities and forecast future business growth to increase membership and
sales;

l) Supervise direct reports work and other administrative matters;

m) Review performance of direct reports;

n) Identify training needs for direct reports;

o) Participate in the recruitment of staff within the department; and

p) Mentor and coach staff

II. Operational Roles and Responsibilities

a) Enhance customer experience through effective customer relationship management;

b) Implement strategic initiatives on customer creation and sales growth to increase market share
and reach;

c) Establish customer satisfaction programs, promotional packages and incentives as well as
materials for media distribution;

d) Facilitate member’s education on investments and Society’s processes through trade fairs,
exhibitions, and other promotional activities;

e) Support, audit and manage internal processes, projects and other related activities alongside other
business support areas;

f) Sanction all marketing campaigns and plan before they are implemented; and

g) Monitor marketing and sales performance and adjust strategies
as needed.

III. Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Key Result Areas:

The jobholder’s accountability areas are outlined as follows:

a) Increased markets, membership growth, increased loan portfolio, growth in deposits and all other
performance parameters in the Sacco;

b) Effective operational cost control of the department’s financial resources;

c) Successful implementation of quality control standards for services offered by the department;

d) Effective supervision of employees assigned to the department;

e) Maximization of productivity in the department;

f) Continuous process improvement of services offered by the department;

g) Ensure customer satisfaction for the consumers of the services offered by the department;

Knowledge and Skills Required:

The jobholder must possess:

a) Master’s degree qualifications in business related field shall be an added advantage

b) A Bachelor degree in Marketing/Business Administration from a recognized institution.

c) Eight (8) years of related work experience in Business Development and Marketing function with a
minimum 4 years relevant experience in a senior position in Marketing and Business Development
in a similar organization

d) Member or Membership in either CIM, MSK or KIM,

e) Valid Police Clearance certificate;

f) Must have ability to plan, organize, implement and evaluate departmental goals;

g) Should have strong analytical skills, result oriented, effective people management and conflict
resolution skills;

h) Must have high standards of integrity and ethical practice;

i) Must be capable of functioning effectively both as a team player and a team leader;

j) Should have problem solving and decision making abilities and an effective communicator;

k) Should demonstrate ability to identify and respond to risk areas within the department;

l) Must have knowledge in use of Ms. Office packages;

m) Understanding of the Society’s business and financial processes;

n) Commitment to the Society’s Vision and Values.
