Position: ICT Security Administrator (1 Position) Ext AD 21/4/2023

Reports to: Head ICT

Purpose of the job:

The ICT Security Administrator will be responsible for protecting UMU’s systems and data. He/She will be required to develop safe electronic access and storage for data, ensure that data transactions are monitored, and monitor networks for security breaches. They will also ensure secure mobile access so that information can be safely accessed remotely.

He/She will establish, manage and administer UMU’s ICT security policy and procedures to ensure preventive and recovery strategies are in place, and minimize the risk of internal and external security threats.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Computer Engineering from a recognized institution of higher learning.

  • Professional certifications in either CompTIA or CISM will be an added advantage.

  • At least three (3) years’ experience in Cyber Security and Identity and Access Management or Privileged Access Management.

  • Experience with configuring Intrusion Detection/Prevention Systems, structured data analysis, and IT Service and Change Management practices are desired

  • Experience and good understanding of Open-source applications

  • Good knowledge and understanding of TCP/IP networking is an added advantage

  • Must have good knowledge of Virtualization

  • Experience in setting up and administering a wide range of Information Systems, preferably in Finance and Education environments is key

  • Experience and good understanding of Open-source applications

  • Good knowledge and understanding of both Windows and Linux Server administration

  • Knowledge of VoIP functionality is an added advantage

    Key Responsibilities:

  • Periodic review of UMU’s ICT risk register and assessing the risks to UMU’s computing systems and planning to minimize possible threats

  • Upgrading existing security systems and/or designing new ones

  • Testing security products and evaluating them
    Simulating security breaches to test procedures

  • Making plans for and leading the disaster recovery process in case security is breached

  • Carrying out corrective actions in the event of a breach

  • Looking for weak points in the system and securing them

  • Ensuring that international and national network security standards are met

  • Preparing technical documentation and reports for users and managers.

  • Any other duties assigned by the supervisor that may be required from time to time for the smooth running of activities at UMU.

    Position: Systems Administrator (1 Position) Ext AD 22/4/2023

    Reports to: Head ICT

    Purpose of the job:

    The Systems Administrator will be responsible for the configuration, implementation, and maintenance of the various ICT systems and software technologies at all campuses of UMU. The incumbent will administer and maintain all technology applications infrastructure including the overall server management, software applications, troubleshooting, storage/file management, all network resources administration, email administration, and regular backups.

    The Systems Administrator will assist in assessing and identifying all appropriate software and hardware applications to be integrated into UMU’s infrastructure and make recommendations for implementation.

    Qualifications and experience:

  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in either Computer Science, Information Technology or Computer Engineering from a recognized institution of higher learning.

  • Professional certifications in MCSE, CCNA will be an added advantage.

  • At least three (3) years’ experience in a busy environment.

  • Good knowledge and understanding of TCP/IP networking is an added advantage

  • Must have good knowledge of Virtualization

  • Experience in setting up and administering a wide range of Information Systems, preferably in Finance and Education environments is key

  • Experience and good understanding of Open-source applications

  • Good knowledge and understanding of both Windows and Linux Server administration

  • Knowledge of VoIP functionality is an added advantage

    Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer UMU’s Active Directory

  • Maintain network servers such as application servers, file servers, VPN gateways, and intrusion detection systems.

  • Administer the university’s mail server

  • Maintenance of IP services like DNS, Web servers, Internet Gateways

  • Support LANs, WANs, network segments, Internet, and intranet systems.

  • Ensure that the design of all systems allows all components to work properly together.

  • Ensure efficiency and availability of all Management Information Systems.

  • Maintain network and system security as well as perform security updates and patches.

  • Explore possibilities of new cost effective and/or open-source technologies based on Linux/UNIX

  • Perform regular
    and scheduled back-up for the various pieces of data and systems as well as perform dummy recoveries of data and systems to ensure their integrity.

  • Any other duties assigned by the supervisor that may be required from time to time for the smooth running of activities at UMU.

    Position: ICT Lab Attendant (1 Position) Ext AD 23/4/2023

    Reports to: Head ICT

    Job Purpose:

    The ICT Lab Attendant will take proper care and stewardship of designated ICT lab facilities (computers, projectors, smart boards etc.) especially at locations that are distant from the central ICT office. The lab attendants will be responsible for providing support to students and other users of the designated ICT labs.

    Qualifications and experience

  • Should have at least a Diploma in Information Technology from a recognized institution of learning.

  • At least one year’s experience working in a reputable organization.

  • Ability to quickly learn other software used for teaching such as accounting software, video editing software etc

  • Should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Should be able to work beyond conventional working hours and on weekends.

    Key Responsibilities:

  • To provide operational and technical support for ICT lab facilities.

  • Under the supervision of the Network Administrator (and sometimes Systems Administrator), install equipment & software required in the IT labs.

  • To arrange for the required servicing and repair of ICT Lab equipment.

  • To perform routine audits on systems and software.

  • To answer user queries relating to use of the ICT Lab.

  • To document the configuration of lab equipment and any changes.

  • To ensure optimum operation of the ICT Lab facilities.

  • To ensure the efficient flow of information between the Lab owner department and ICT technical team leaders.

  • Any other duties assigned by the supervisor that may be required from time to time for the smooth running of activities at UMU.

    Position: ICT Lab Attendant (1 Position) Ext AD 24/4/2023

    Reports to: Head ICT

    Job Purpose:

    The ICT Lab Attendant will take proper care and stewardship of designated ICT lab facilities (computers, projectors, smart boards etc.) especially at locations that are distant from the central ICT office. The lab attendants will be responsible for providing support to students and other users of the designated ICT labs. The role of lab attendants is essential for preventing theft or misuse, better availability, security, reliable operation and optimal use of lab facilities.

    Qualifications and experience

  • Should have at least a Diploma in Information Technology from a recognized institution of learning.

  • At least one year’s experience working in a reputable organization.

  • Ability to quickly learn other software used for teaching such as accounting software, video editing software etc

  • Should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Should be able to work beyond conventional working hours and on weekends.
