The Maa Trust Bead-Work Leather Artisan Jobs in Kenya; The Beadwork Leather Artisan at The Maa Beadwork will be responsible for designing and handcrafting high-quality bead-embellished leather products that celebrate Maasai culture while supporting sustainable livelihoods. The role combines traditional beadwork with skilled leather craftsmanship, contributing to the empowerment of women artisans and thepreservation of indigenous artistry within a social enterprise model.
Key roles and responsibilities: Craft leather products, integrating bead-work patterns as per design specifications.
Cut, stitch, and assemble leather components using hand tools or light machinery.
Apply traditional Maasai bead-work to leather items with precision, accuracy, and cultural symbolism.
Follow production guidelines, quality standards, and design templates to ensure product consistency.
Participate in co-design sessions to incorporate new techniques, materials, and market trends.
Handle materials responsibly—leather, beads, adhesives, and tools—ensuring minimal waste.
Perform quality checks and refinements on finished products.
Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized work environment.
Take part in regular training to enhance bead-work and leather-working skills.
Support peer artisans and promote teamwork and shared craftsmanship.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills:
Prior experience in bead-work, leather crafting, or related artisan work.
Understanding of Maasai cultural designs and
color symbolism.
Skilled in hand-beading techniques and traditional Maasai patterns.
Knowledge of leather types, preparation methods, and finishing techniques.
Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, durable products.
Respect for tradition with openness to modern design innovation.
Reliable, self-motivated, and cooperative in a team environment.
