Job Description

Lutheran World Federation (LWF/WS – Ethiopia) is a registered foreign charity which has been operating in Ethiopia since 1973 implementing various development and humanitarian projects in different parts of Ethiopia. LWF is currently looking and invites qualified candidates to apply for the following vacant position.

Project: Resilience Building Project (RESET II)/ Rayitu, Bale Zone

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure/promote the active participation of the target community at all levels of the water works construction.
  • Responsible for the study and design of water supply schemes and related works in the intervention areas of the project,
  • Produce study and design documents, construction specifications, bill of quantities and construction schedule for the works to be carried out at the specific sites,
  • Prepare annual, quarterly and monthly work plans for water supply scheme and related works based on the project document,
  • Facilitate sanitation and hygiene activities to the target communities in the intervention woredas;
  • Facilitate the work to make the water supply systems function properly;
  • Conduct/arrange trainings on water usage/conservation and sanitation to the Water Committee. Organize hygiene promotion campaign when budgeted and necessary.
  • Supervise water and sanitation works;
  • Ensure effective utilization and handling of properties and supplies assigned to the water supply scheme and related works,
  • Ensure an efficient utilization of construction materials and manpower during water supply scheme construction,
  • Properly locate the water supply points in the field together with the project staffs, communities and government counter parts offices,
  • In consultation with the Project Team Leader and Regional Coordinator, he shall check and facilitate timely provision of manpower, manuals, vehicles and other inputs necessary for the implementation of the water supply schemes.
  • Supervise the quality and quantity of work of the water supply scheme and related construction activities as per the design.
  • Prepare necessary monthly, quarterly, and annual progress report of the WaSH activities and submit to the Project Team Leader and Regional Coordinator on time.
  • Communicate with water desk of the wereda and
    the respective zonal Department for information sharing and support whenever deemed necessary,
  • Ensure the establishment and strengthening of community water users committee (WUC) and also make sure that the water works are sustainable.
  • Document all WaSH related information and share periodically to project staff and Head Office staff.
  • Implement the exit strategy of the project during proper handover of the project results.
  • Ensure that training on minor water schemes maintenance is conducted for community water attendants and also facilitate the provision of tools for such maintenance at each water scheme level or at community level.
  • Ensure that accountability and visibility are adequately integrated into project implementation.

    Employment Term: till 13 September 2019 with possibility of extension

    Job Requirements

    Requirements:

  • Masters or Bachelor Degree in Water Resource Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Water Supply & Sanitation & Environmental Engineering
  • Minimum of 1 year relevant work experience for Masters Degree and 3 years for Bachelor Degree

    Key skills/competencies required:

  • Strong communication skill in English (written and oral)
  • Ability to interact with people
  • Experience in preparing drawings, designs, and BoQ of water supply schemes;
  • Experience in supervision of construction of water supply schemes;
  • Capability to ensure full participation of communities and concerned line departments at all levels;
  • Actively nurtures good relationships with people across all organizational levels and boundaries, and with government bodies & stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in preparing work plan and report and submitting timely;
  • Knowledge and Experience in CLTSH, SLTSH, and PHAST is highly welcomed;
  • knowledge of water supply design software
  • Computer Literate
