Job Description

  • Perform all agronomy related activities (both rain fed and irrigated agriculture) in the project area
  • Identify dominant weeds, insect pests diseases and others and recommend mitigation measures
  • Prepare and recommend improved farming practices, agricultural extension services, agricultural inputs and cropping systems in the project area following government policies.
  • Formulate agronomic activities, approaches procedures and prepare guidelines to be used by the communities.
  • Monitor the sustainability and on timeliness of agricultural activities in consultation with the beneficiaries
  • Plan and workout activities to execute agronomic feasibility studies in the project area
  • Prepare technical manuals which is appropriate to the area
  • Asses the challenges and build technical capacity of beneficiaries
  • Plan and implement all Agricultural extension works at the Project area with local Office of Agriculture personnel.
  • Supervise the work carried out by the beneficiaries and give proper extension advice
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly, biannual and annual work plans
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, biannual and annual progress reports, including successes story
  • Remain at the work site, if necessary to ensure efficient work program
  • Introduce new techniques of crops production and protection to the beneficiaries
  • Prepare and analyse baseline and post survey of the project
  • Participate in needs assessment of new projects and prepare
    draft concept/project proposals
  • Carry out biannual impact assessments using stated indicators at intermediate and immediate level outcomes, analyse the findings and prepare a thorough report
  • Arrange training and demonstrate proper cultural practices to the beneficiaries

    Terms of employment:

    Until 31 December 2019 with high possibility of extension

    Job Requirements

    Qualification:

  • Masters or Bachelor Degree in plant science or general agriculture or horticultural development with minimum of one year relevant work experience for Masters Degree and three years for Bachelor Degree.

    Additional requirement:

  • Experiences in irrigation agronomy, dry land Agriculture and small holder farmers’ agricultural development are advantageous.
  • Proficiency in both written and spoken English
  • Good skill in reporting and monitoring,
  • Skill in promoting and coordination of agricultural activities,
  • Skill in training beneficiaries
  • Other job related trainings
  • Computer literate
  • NGO Experience is advantageous
