The Carter Center country office in Ethiopia, which assists the Government of Ethiopia in Disease Elimination and Eradication Programs is looking for a qualified professional to fill the following vacancy for its Guinea Worm Eradication Program.

Summary Job Description:

Conducts regular search for sick animals, makes diagnosis and provide treatments;

Organize and conduct immunization and other preventive measures such as health education to ensure welfare and well being of animals;

Provide training to GWO’s and VBVs on restraining methods and identification of sign and symptoms of sick animals;

Prepares monthly plan related to health and welfare of dogs and cats and collaboration with Woreda Animal Health Office;

Conducts monthly BCS and health status of dogs and cats during regular/monthly ectoparasite control activities;

Records all animal health related information, analyze data and submit status report;

Interviews all owners/households of dogs and cats reporting Guinea worm infections to study the epidemiology and ascertain where infections may have been acquired and what the EDEP can do to improve surveillance and containment based on lessons learned

from the previous infections;

Supervises active surveillance, dog tethering follow-up, animal health care and status of dog parks in Abobo and Gog woredas;

Works closely with EDEP staff and Woreda Animal Health Office Head and technical staff

Works to strengthen competence of EDEP staff in animal surveillance for GW infection;

Performs other duties as instructed by the supervisor.

Required Number: 1 (One) for Gog Woreda & 1 (One) for Abobo Woreda

Terms of Employment: one year with strong possibility of extension

Job Requirements

Qualification and Experience:

Degree or equivalent in Veterinary Science or Animal Health.

Relevant experience of minimum four years.

Additional Requirements:

Ability to work in team and demonstrate good interpersonal communication skills

Willingness to work for extended hours and travel to remote field sites (villages & Kebeles) frequently

Attention to details, quality and result oriented

NGO experience is a plus

Recommendation letter from the most recent employer
