Introduction

BOMA’s mission is to provide the people and governments of Africa’s drylands with economic inclusion programs that increase resilience to multiple crises. Founded 15 years ago to eliminate extreme poverty among pastoralist women in Kenya, BOMA has since transformed the lives of more than 350,000 women, youth and refugees in East Africa.

BOMA stands out for its focus on last mile populations of the drylands of Africa, who are most at risk to shocks from climate change and COVID-19, tech savvy and data driven approach, impressive graduation rate and 99% local structure based in Africa.

About the Program

BOMA is currently seeking qualified candidates for Program Training Officer position for the newly awarded Livelihoods and Inclusion for Transformation (LIFT) Northern Kenya project.

The Livelihoods and Inclusion for Transformation (LIFT) Northern Kenya project will implement a climate crisis-adapted “green” version of The BOMA Project’s proven poverty graduation model, the Rural Entrepreneur Access Project (REAP) to provide market-based pull by facilitating more competitive, profitable Green Enterprises for women, youth, and refugees within the forest ecosystems in Marsabit, Samburu and Turkana counties and in Kakuma and Kalobeyei Refugee Settlements over a period of 3 years.

BOMA will be the Lead partner of the project and will collaborate with Danish Church Aid (DCA) and Smart Regional Consultants (SRC) in implementing the project.

Position Overview

IT Associate champions our service delivery initiatives through monitoring and maintaining the computer systems and networks of the organization. You will be installing and configuring computer systems, diagnosing hardware and software faults and solving technical and applications problems, either over the phone or in person.

At BOMA, we value the end user experience, and we prioritize ensuring technology tools and services enhance the staff work experience. The ideal candidate should value teamwork, service delivery and empowering end users.

They should also have experience using Salesforce or electronic data collection platforms, as well as experience servicing laptops, tablets, and mobile phones. The candidate should have experience delivery IT hardware support. Able to demonstrate
commitment, flexibility, enthusiasm, and good team skills.

Key Responsibilities:

IT Support

  • Provide End-user support for hardware and software challenges.
  • Talk staff or clients through a series of actions, either face-to-face or over the phone, to help set up systems or resolve issues.
  • Update existing /create new IT user manuals and training materials for all technology related activities in the organisation.
  • System and Network problems, diagnosing and solving hardware or software faults.
  • Replace parts as required i.e., Laptops, Printers, Tablets etc
  • Maintain an updated inventory list of all technology items within BOMA.
  • Research new electronic devices and make recommendations for procurement.
  • Test and evaluate new technology.
  • Provide maintenance and servicing on all technology assets.
  • Provide support, including procedural documentation and relevant reports.
  • Support the roll-out of new applications.
  • Set up new users' accounts and profiles on MS 365, Salesforce, G-suite.

    Systems

  • Assist with creation of reports, dashboards, surveys, jobs and other Salesforce related needs.
  • Create, edit and field map surveys created using Taroworks.

    Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in information Technology, business information technology, business systems engineering, computer networking and hardware, computer science or other relevant degree.
  • At least one year of experience performing IT support and maintenance for hardware and software.
  • Able to multi-task and adhere to project timelines.
  • Strong communication skills able to express information to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information.
  • Able to identify problems, use sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
  • Strong attention to detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
