The Project Officer - Kenya works with the Country Team (CT), and receives hierarchical leadership from the SGBV Project Manager to whom he/she reports. He/she will, in close collaboration and consultation with the project manager, implement and monitor the SGBV prevention and response project in Kakuma, Turkana County, under the TdH NL Sexual Exploitation of Children programme in Kenya.

Responsibilities

Result areas

  • Realizing the Project outputs
    Translate a developed project plan into a concrete and achievable work plan for project execution, submitting this to the Project manager for approval and communicating the work plan to the stakeholders
  • Prepare the necessary documentation for approval of project activities according to TdH-NL’s guidelines
  • Support project manager in the development, harmonization and dissemination of SGBV reporting and referral pathways
  • Facilitate community dialogues engaging children, women, youth, men and community leaders to sensitize them against SGBV to identify SGBV training needs and appropriate strategies for steering change in their attitudes/behavior in ending of SGBV (with a bias on children) with their communities
  • Support in design and development of SGBV behaviour change communication guides ensuring cultural appropriateness
  • Support the project manager in capacity building sessions for community agents of change on SGBV risks, identification, prevention and response, roles and responsibilities targeting frontline SGBV service providers

    [Improve service

  • Ensure that all scheduled project reports such as progress and financial reports are delivered on time and that they are of good quality, according to TdH-NL’s standards, analyse the received information and compile the necessary reports to the Project Manager
  • Support in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with all stakeholders including community leaders, NGOs, government ministries/authorities, UN agencies, social institutions, donors, among others
  • Identify together with Project Manager areas for further improvement on programme quality with regard to child protection
    Improve workflows
  • In collaboration with Project Manager and PME Coordinator, lead in project monitoring and evaluation
  • As part
    of a team, translate developments and situation specific information into thematic and country annual and strategic policies.
  • Assist in the continuous assessment of child protection needs and gaps in the country in order to ensure that these are appropriately reflected in project strategies and interventions.
  • Support the Senior Communication Officer at the Regional Office with information and materials for marketing and communication, e.g. news items (case stories) and photos.
  • Facilitate field monitoring visits for TdH staff, partners and other stakeholders

    Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in development studies, project management, child rights,or relevant fields
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar position
  • Experience in Child protection and in working with local stakeholders
  • Experience with GBV/SGBV programming is an added advantage
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills- written and orally
  • Planning, organizing,cooperation, performance oriented,
  • High degree of taking initiative and working independently
