The Embassy of Brazil in Nairobi, Kenya, through the Decree 1.570 of 21st July 1995, and the Order of the Minister of State for External Relations of Brazil of 12th September 1995, makes it public, by this notice, that it is starting a selective process to hire one

Technical Trade Officer, according to the rules below:

  • Objective
  • The selection process is intended for the hiring of one (1) Technical Trade Officer.
  • Technical Trade Officers are employees hired locally, for a determined period of time, subject to
    the Kenyan labor laws and social security standards, on full-time working arrangements.
  • Technical Trade Officer will provide technical, administrative and support services in the Trade
    Promotion Section of the Embassy of Brazil in Nairobi, such as carry out activities in the areas of foreign trade, operate Foreign Trade and Investment online guides, prepare market research, and other related tasks as assigned.
  • The gross monthly salary will be Ksh 171,900.00 (one hundred and seventy one thousand, nine
    hundred Kenyan shillings).
  • This selection process is not a public tender, and the vacancy for the Technical Trade Officer does
    not characterize a position at the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs or an employment in the Brazilian
    Civil Service.

    Requirements

    The applicant mentioned in this selection process must meet the following requirements:

  • be over 18 years of age at the time of entry;
  • declare that he or she does not hold a position, job or public office in Brazil;
  • be a Kenyan citizen or, in the case of Brazilian national applicants or other countries have a
    permanent resident visa in Kenya;
  • have a college degree(s);
  • have academic and / or professional experience in foreign trade and international economy;
  • have knowledge of use of the Internet and word processing programs;
  • In case of Brazilian citizens, be compliant with the electoral obligations in Brazil;
  • In case of Brazilian male, aged between 18 and 45 years, be compliant with the obligations of military
    service in Brazil.

    How to apply

    Application

  • Application will be open from 20h
    to 28th September 2018.
  • Copies of the documents listed below must be sent to the Embassy of Brazil in Nairobi within the
    period stipulated in item 3.1 by e-mail to the address administ.nairobi@itamaraty.gov.br.

    For application, applicants are required to send the following documents electronically:

  • curriculum vitae and, if any, reference or recommendation letters;
  • proof copy of visa for permanent residence in Kenya (exempt for the applicant with Kenyan
    citizenship);
  • copy of passport or official and valid identity document with photo;
  • copy of proof of completion of higher education;
  • for a Brazilian male aged between 18 and 45 years, copy of proof of clearance of military obligations.

    Preliminary Selection

  • The Selection Committee shall evaluate the qualification and eligibility of applicants upon the
    examination of the CVs and other documents submitted by applicants.
  • Applicants who meet the requirements will be invited by e-mail for a written examination.

    Evaluation

  • Assessment of selected applicants will be made by the Selection Committee by conducting written
    tests in Portuguese and English, and individual interviews.
  • The assessment criteria to be measured will be the ability of understanding and speaking and
    writing in Portuguese and English, knowledge of issues and concepts of foreign trade, knowledge and
    the resourcefulness and ability to perform related duties.
  • The written test will consist of translation and/or version in both languages, and questions on
    issues of economy and foreign trade.
  • The oral examination will consist of an interview about
    professional career and the applicant's aspirations, as well as discussions based on the written test.
  • Written tests shall take place on 10th October 2018 at the Embassy grounds, at a time to be
    informed.
  • Those approved in the written tests will be invited by e-mail for the individual interviews on a date and time to be determined.
  • The final result of the selection process will be announced at the reception of the Embassy, by
    posting of notice, and on the Embassy website. Probable date of publication of the results will be from 25th October 2018.
  • The decisions made by the Selection Committee may not be appealed.
  • Applicants invited for the written test and/or interview must appear at least 15 minutes before the
    set time for the beginning of the test and/or individual interviews, carrying with them a valid ID with photo.
  • An applicant who does not appear on the set day and time for each test or interview, or acts with
    incorrectness or discourtesy will be eliminated.
  • The average grade of the Portuguese and English written tests and the oral interview will constitute
    the final grade.
  • Successful applicants will be considered approved when they have obtained a final average grade of at least sixty (60) points. The classification of successful applicants will be processed by descending order of the final grade.
  • In case of a tie between two or more applicants, the one who will have obtained the highest
    score in the Portuguese test will be preferred.

    Hiring and validity of the selection process

    Applicant ranked first will be hired, and the hiring shall be effective from August 2018. The
    contract will, however, depend on the presentation of:


  • all the original documents requested in this notice;
  • proof of physical and mental fitness for the tasks, approved by an official Kenyan institution or a medical doctor;
  • proof of no criminal record, through the presentation of a certificate issued by police authority (Certificate of Good Conduct);
  • Registration numbers with the social security systems, medical and Kenyan tax system (NSSF, NHIF
    and PIN).
  • In the event of withdrawal of the applicant ranked first, breach of the provisions of item 4.1 above or unavailability to take up the post within a reasonable time, the applicant ranked second will be
    summoned for hiring, and so on.
  • This selection process will be valid for twelve (12) months from the date of publication of the final
    outcome. The other applicants deemed suitable, that is, who have obtained a minimum average of sixty
    (60) points in the final classification, may be contacted, within the validity period of this selection process, in case of an available vacancy for Technical Trade Assistant in order to provide services in the Trade Promotion section of the Embassy of Brazil in Nairobi.
