Contract duration: 12 months with possibility for extension depending on funding

Tearfund has been working in South Sudan since the 1970s through partners and the disaster response team has been directly involved in the country since 1998. The relief programme is largely based in former Jonglei state and Juba with longer term work with partners focused in Central and Western Equatoria and Northern Bahr el Ghazal.

Tearfund is offering the opportunity for an experienced Safety and Security Manager to join Tearfund's team in this challenging and fast paced environment, working with a fantastic team of professionals committed to serve those the most vulnerable in one of the most difficult humanitarian contexts in the world.

We are looking for an experienced and committed individual to provide strategic safety support to our operational and partnership work in South Sudan.

The safety and security manager will take responsibility to:

  • Review all Field Sites and see how to improve on current safety in those locations to enforce and demonstrate an excellent safety culture
  • Ensure that staff undergo applicable training/conduct training for their level of responsibility before deployment to field sites
    Maintain the centralised filing system on google drive with restricted access so that appropriate analysis and learning outcomes can be created.
  • Maintain the security dashboard for each location
  • Facilitate Area Coordinators to update Tearfund’s safety plans and do an active review every 6 months or with a sudden shift in the operating environment to ensure correctness and trends are correctly taking into account, paying special attention to triggers and scenario planning
  • Revise contingency and evacuation plans,
  • Ensure hibernation spaces are set up and managed according to Tearfund procedures
    Carry out site surveys for new project offices

    Tearfund Area Coordinator Jobs in South Sudan


  • Tearfund has been operational in South Sudan since 1998, working in areas affected by conflict and chronic vulnerability in Northern Bahr el Ghazal, Jonglei and Upper Nile states.
  • Tearfund has also worked in South Sudan for over 40 years through local partners and currently works with nine different partners each undertaking a variety of development, humanitarian and advocacy projects to contribute to the recovery and development of local communities.

  • Tearfund is seeking an experienced project manager professional to lead and manage Tearfund’s team in Aweil, South Sudan.
  • The role will be closely working alongside Tearfund’s partner (organisations) to assist them in capacity building and implementing emergency humanitarian project work, and will also involve oversight of direct operational team work.
  • The AC is the most senior representative in Aweil, and is responsible for project management and implementation of the programme quality and accountability.
  • The AC is also responsible for ensuring that Tearfund’s policies are adhered to by staff and is responsible for representation to local authorities and donors.
  • The AC is a key part of the programme Senior Management Team and contributes to the strategic decision making and shaping the strategy of the programme.

  • The successful applicant will have had a minimum of three years working for an NGO and have proven disaster management experience.
  • The applicant should have two years in a senior role with proven budget and project management.
  • People management and security management is essential, as is fluent written and spoken English.
  • Tests will be conducted prior to interview.
  • The successful applicant will have the ability to manage their own workload, work to strict time frames and deal with complex personnel issues.
  • In addition they will possess good cross-cultural skills, strong written and communication skills and the ability to relate well to people.
  • The role requires living in basic conditions in a town, with infrequent travel to Juba.

    Tearfund Deputy Country Director - Partnerships - Jobs in South Sudan

  • Tearfund seeks a senior leader, passionate about seeing transformation through the local Church and National Christian NGO’s.
  • The Deputy Country Director-Partnerships role will assist the Country Director in oversight and management of a portfolio of partners, ensuring the effective design, assessment, resourcing and monitoring of Partners and projects (both emergency and development focused) in support of the delivery of Tearfund’s strategy while ensuring projects reflect our Quality Standard commitments.
  • This post will lead engagement with national advocacy platforms to advance the efforts toward Peace and Reconciliation.
  • The post holder will manage programming, advisory or technical staff as required, as well as consultants, and will represent Tearfund externally.

  • Tearfund has worked in South Sudan for over 40 years through local partners and currently works with nine Partners each undertaking a variety of development, humanitarian and advocacy projects to contribute to the recovery and development of local communities in South Sudan.

  • Candidates must be committed to integral mission approaches, and have a passion to see the local church in South Sudan developing its role in addressing poverty and injustice.
  • The successful applicant will have proven experience in advocacy work specifically in capacity building of local organisations, and in peace building and reconciliation.
  • Essential experience in community development, humanitarian emergency response and project management are also required, with excellent relational skills to be able to work effectively with the leaders of Church denominations and para-Church organisations.

  • The successful applicant will be educated to a degree level with a good and proven understanding of current relief and development issues and experience in a number of complex humanitarian contexts including South Sudan.
  • Excellent written and spoken English, good cross-cultural awareness and a genuine heart for the poor are essential for this role.
  • Additionally, the role will be line managing a number of quite senior roles within the programme so good people-management skills are essential.

    Tearfund Emergency Programme Manager Jobs in South Sudan


  • We are seeking an experienced Emergency Programme Manager to provide in-country medium-term management support to new operational programmes and assist Tearfund’s assessment of and response to new situations.
  • Additionally, the role will also involve working alongside well-established national partner organisations as they respond to the current South Sudan crisis with institutional donor funding.
  • Experience of working in insecure humanitarian contexts is essential.
  • As a dynamic Emergency Programme Manager, the majority of your time will be assisting the Country Director in responding to new, and supporting existing, operational programmes.
  • You will be deployed to different areas within the country when required, leading the assessment of the humanitarian needs, assisting in developing Tearfund’s response either for Partners and/or operational response, and documenting associated learning.
  • You will have proven people, programme management and project cycle management skills and experience, including proposal & report writing and needs assessment experience as well as having good interpersonal skills and a strong awareness of development issues in South Sudan.
  • Relevant overseas experience and good cross-cultural awareness are essential, combined with a genuine heart for the poor.
