General description of the position:

  • The Child Innovation hub officer is part of the Korogocho team. The position is based in Nairobi County and receives hierarchical leadership from the Project Manager based in Nairobi to whom he/she reports.

  • He/She leads in the implementation of Terre des hommes youth participation activities under the Joining Forces alliance.

  • S/he will be implementing activities addressing violence against children during and beyond the COVID-19 pandemic guided by increasing the capacity of the children themselves to prevent and respond to violence against them and ensure meaningful child participation in all matters affecting them at all levels.

    Key Responsibilities:

  • Create innovative approach to engage and empower children and youth to tackle issues related to Child Protection

  • Position children as social entrepreneurs working on the Child Protection and Gender-Based Violence issues they see as most salient.

  • Support children to identify the priority problems they see around child protection and gender-based violence,

  • Support children in leading the design and implementation of innovations which help to tackle the protection issues.

  • Ensuring children are kept at the center of problem identification, ideation and implementation, innovations empowering children and staying firmly user centered.

  • Support development of potentially promising innovations to address problems of violence, GBV in their communities.

  • Promote the resilience of children, by offering children skills, capacities, knowledge and critical relationships within their communities contributing to an increased sense of efficacy, and their roles as social actors.

  • Developing and adapting the ‘Plan Z’ methodology to further adapt human-centered / design thinking approaches to develop interventions tackling priority issues of the concerned children
    and youths in the areas of child protection, GBV, etc.

  • Piloting of the methodology to develop and incubate innovative approaches.

  • Accompanying the development of ideas through innovation hubs.

  • Strengthen children’s clubs / child led EVAC innovation hubs to develop child led psychosocial activities and peer support mechanisms.

  • Create partnership alliances with adults from the community (parents, caregivers, teachers, leaders, etc).

  • Organize sessions with child protection stakeholders to present innovations developed by children.

  • Support the implementation of innovation prototypes for EVAC.

    Child Protection:

  • Maintain regular exchanges with the other partners for the early identification and timely response to children in need of protection.

  • Promote, and
    ensure project activities are in line with child protection principles and best practices.

  • Ensure the project activities are integrated in the Kenyan child protection system.

  • Report serious cases of abuse on children identified by the project team to the management team.

  • Strict confidentiality must be respected.

    Other:

  • Agree to comply with Tdh Code of Conduct and ensures Child Safeguarding standards are upheld.

  • Adhere to and ensure the team under her/his responsibility follows Tdh administrative and logistical regulations and procedures.

    Job Requirements:

    Knowledge:

  • Professional diploma or University degree in social work, child’s psychology, counseling or any other relevant discipline.

  • At least 2 years’ experience working with children in need of protection.

  • Good IT knowledge (Microsoft Office, Internet, Excel).

  • Previous experience with a child protection organization is desirable.

  • Previous experience in child participation and violence against children.

  • Very good knowledge of key child protection issues and best practices.

  • Very good knowledge of the child protection system in Kenya.

    Skills:

  • This position requires the control of basic personnel, social and leadership skills, as well as technical, organizational and methodological competences.

  • Required qualities: proactive, autonomous, rigorous, organized, good communication and interpersonal skills.

    Languages:

  • Fluent in English and Swahili
