Role details

  • Reporting to the Chief Manager, Finance and Administration, the job holder will be responsible for provision of effective and efficient co-ordination of accounting, financial and treasury functions through development and implementation of sound accounting and financial systems and internal control procedures in accordance with regulations, standards and Society policies and procedures.

    Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the Chief Manager, Finance and Administration and other leaders to formulate strategies and plans, and in decision making, ensuring the Sacco’s financial systems are robust, compliant and support current activities and future growth.

  • Lead the implementation of finance function’s strategic initiatives and develop leading practise processes and procedures to guide finance operations and accounting processes.

  • Ensure continuous improvement of the processes and financial systems to incorporate emerging needs in both reporting and control environment.

  • Oversee preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual accounts and statutory accounts to ensure compliance to internal and external requirements.

  • Lead the preparation of financial statements in accordance with the International Financial Reporting standards while ensuring all relevant assumptions are applied.

  • Provide oversight in preparation of budgets for the entire company as well as for the Finance and Administration department.

  • Gather, analyse, monitor, interpret, forecast and report financial data to inform decision making.

  • Research new investment opportunities and develop financial models.

  • Provide business analysis for new products, new ventures and projects to support the decision-making process and track progress.

  • Assess the economic performance, conduct peer review and identify financial and market trends.

  • Conduct detailed risk analyses to assess potential investments and advise on estimates for project funding.

  • Create commercial plans in collaboration with the management team.

  • Ensure fund administrator reporting is accurate, on time, and reflective of wider business insights.

  • Ensure compliance with laws, policies/guidelines, regulations and standards.

  • Manage monthly and quarterly tax returns to ensure compliance with internal and external regulations.

  • Ensure accuracy of financial transactions
    by verifying integrity of reports and underlying transaction processing systems.

  • Responsible for approval of invoices, journals and payments.

  • Monitor and report on accounting discrepancies to inform decision making.

  • Ensure preparation of weekly cash flow statements and controlling expenditure and cash flow.

  • Responsible for creation and management of KPI reports to ensure its achievement.

  • Organize internal and support in external audits and ensure quick resolution of significant deficiencies.

    Minimum Requirements

    Academic Requirements

  • A Bachelors’ degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or a business related field from a reputable institution.

    Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of eight (8) years’ experience in a finance and accounting environment, with at least three (3) in a similar role.

  • Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (K) or Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

  • Membership to Institute of Certified Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK)
