Job Purpose

  • To support the Regional Manager to drive and deliver a value adding sales solution and service platform directed by the Small Enterprise (SE) value proposition, that will grow and retain high value business.

  • To integrate and align the Small Enterprise segment within the Regional value chain management platform, to ensure shared accountability for sustainable business growth and employee/customer retention.

  • To leverage and optimise resources, business and operational risk, and market potential, to maximise SE business growth and retention.

    Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

    Value proposition implementation

  • Guides and supports the Regional Manager and Provincial Business Banking Head/Provincial SE Head (where applicable), in the execution of the SE customer financial solutions (CFS) and achievement of Regional sales and budget targets.

  • Structures and monitors SE portfolios in line with optimal capacity by ensuring that customers are migrated timeously to the appropriate segments to achieve benchmarks that ensure the effective execution of the SE value proposition.

  • Ensures and monitors that customers are migrated to alternate channels, including the BizDirect Response Centre for optimal utilisation of resources.

  • Analyses relevant management information (MI) reports to provide Regional intelligence in formulating sales plans and Regional performance strategies.

  • Drives the development and implementation of sales and service best practices across the Regions in support of the provincial goals.
    Ensures that the relevant customer contact and relationship management principles are aligned to the SE (CFS).

  • Influences the adoption of change management initiatives across Business Bankers/Managers and Manager, Acquisition to ensure affective execution of the SE operating model and value propositions

    Stakeholder Management

  • Forges business partnerships with Personal and Business Banking stakeholders in the province to leverage the interplay between Personal and Business Banking for optimal growth and retention.

  • Forges business partnerships with Credit, Human Resources, segment and other internal and external stakeholders for optimal segment growth and retention.

  • Facilitates partnerships with Regional Stakeholders and other business stakeholders e.g. Vehicle and Asset Finance (VAF);
  • Electronic Banking; Standard Bank Financial Consultancy (SBFC); Standard Bank Insurance Brokers (SBIB) etc. to leverage leads, cross-sells and business growth opportunities

    Sustainable growth in business performance

  • Allocates SE sales budgets in line with Regional dynamics.

  • Drives and supports the business banking SE team to achieve all sales targets and improve cross-sell of core products to existing customers and improve cross-sell at origination.

  • Supports the SE team to translate the sales growth objectives into clear sales tactics and regularly analyses management information (MI) to inform and strengthen the sales tactics.

  • Measures, tracks and manages sales targets and performance for the team on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.

  • Supports team in mining customer data to identify expansion and/or additional business opportunities.

  • Ensures effective on boarding of customers to ensure active, profitable customer relationships.

  • Drives initiatives that support growth in the Black Small Medium Enterprises lending book and transformation of the customer base.

  • Drives effective pipeline opportunity management

    Customer
    Experience


  • Monitors and identifies complaint trends and establishes processes to address problems and service gaps.

  • Manages and resolves escalated customer complaints within the service level agreement.

  • Ensures a defined customer contact management calling programme in order to retain top customers within the relevant Region.

  • Monitors and manages (in collaboration with strategic business partners) service level agreements, standards and turnaround times to ensure optimal Customer experience.

  • Ensures effective use of Customer1st lead generation system as a lead, query and complaint management tool

    Lending and Risk management

  • Arbitrates and/or motivates credit decisions and submits to the Small Enterprise Command Centre.

  • Ensures that all aspects of credit policy are adhered to and the desired standards with respect to quality, accuracy and timely reporting are achieved.

  • Guides the SE Business Banking team in the application of credit principles and practices.

  • Ensures effective and appropriate pricing across all products in the Business segments.
  • Drives margin management and limit concessions

    Legislative Compliance

  • Assumes oversight over the sales function(s) and ensures that all non-FAIS (Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services) representatives perform their duties in line with the requirements.

  • Ensures that all staff understands their roles as non FAIS reps and the risk implications of giving advice as non-representatives.

  • Ensures that non-representatives undertake the necessary non FAIS representatives training as required by in terms of the compliance training framework.

  • Supports the Region and province to ensure compliance to all applicable legislative requirements such as National Credit Act, Companies Act, Consumer Protection Act, etc

    People Management

  • Responsible for the recruitment, development and retention of relevant skills in order to meet the business needs.

  • Ensures the effective selection of staff by matching the skills and competencies to the requirements of the job.

  • Ensures skills assessments and competency-based training takes place as and when required.

  • Ensure 100% compliance training for all staff.

  • Builds organisational capabilities through evaluating likely future requirements and ensuring that individuals are provided with the best possible development opportunities in line with these.

    Preferred Qualification and Experience

  • Minimum of 6-8 years’ general banking experience of which 2-3 years need to have been in leadership role within the business banking.

  • Experience in writing motivating and concluding complex lending deals for small business customers

  • Experience in dealing with business customers at all levels and in managing business relationships.

  • People management experience in leading teams and motivating people.

  • Experience in negotiation skills and conflict handling.

    Knowledge/Technical Skills/Expertise

  • Business Accumen

  • The ability to analyse business financial performance as well as competitor and external factors as it would apply to the people practice in the organisation. The ability to analyse the business specific language and business processes in order to support them effectively

  • Knowledge and understanding of costing, budgeting and finance concepts and the understanding and application of related processes and procedures.
