  • To help us drive our success into the future, we are looking for an experienced Data Manager to join our team at a management level. Standard Bank is a leading African banking group focused on emerging markets globally. It has been a mainstay of South Africa's financial system for 150 years, and now spans 20 countries across the African continent.

  • To act as subject matter expert on all data and information matters for an allocated Business Unit. To ensure visibility of Information Management with Business Unit leadership, and secure executive sponsorship of data related initiatives.

  • To mature the information management discipline within the Credit Decision Science (CDS) team with the support of the Head Data Management and Data Governance.

    Key Responsibilites

    Implement and embed data/information management strategy within Credit Decision Science (CDS)

  • Implements the Information Management strategy within the CDS Business Unit based on their unique requirements. This includes creating visibility of Information Management (IM) with Business Unit leadership and securing executive sponsorship of data related initiatives for the Business Unit based on its unique requirements.

  • Drives the successful adoption of #HealthyData principles. Actively drives data quality initiatives within the Business Unit.

  • Actively sifts through the business data related incidents and helps prioritise these for remediation with the IM team. Understands the commercial aspirations and goals of the Business Unit and formulates a plan to enable the Business Unit to achieve its objectives with the assistance of the Business Unit business teams.

  • Understands the end-to-end data lineage, metadata and business rules of the business and ensures that gaps are addressed effectively. Manages key data issues appropriately for onboarding, maintenance and servicing, credit, marketing and regulatory requirements.

    Data Maturity

  • Builds and manages the data knowledge in Business Unit in partnership with Information Maturity to embed the Information Management discipline. Provides input into learning paths for the Business Unit staff on data / information management.

  • Informs the capability development plan based on overall Business Unit gaps. Facilitate the planning of regular and ad-hoc awareness sessions on the data strategy to the business community.
    Data Governance, Standards and Policies
    Executes the standards and policy implementation in Business Unit.

  • Socialise data management policies, standards and process documents. Facilitate the execution of the Data Governance strategy and initiatives in the respective.

    Business Unit

  • Business Unit data governance forums established and functional. Adherence to or development of new and existing standards and policies.

  • Data risks in BU are raised. Decisions taken in data governance are logged and captured in Microsoft Teams system. Minutes and actions are uploaded in in Microsoft Teams system. Manages the access to curated data set in Reservoir.

    Data Quality

  • Forms a view on the status of Business Unit data quality to inform priority of remediation and awareness. Drives initiatives to increase data quality for Business Unit to ensure they achieve their overall target.

  • Shares lessons learnt as well as opportunities identified in Business Unit. Resolves conflicting priorities within Business
    Unit relating to data initiatives. Creates an environment where data issues can be identified in real time in order to reduce excessive remediation requests.

  • Monitors and manages the quality of data and information by identifying errors (inaccuracy, incompleteness) and resolves such through data remediation and change processes. Sense customer impact from a process or solution and put measures in place to minimize/avoid customer complaints.

    Data Life Cycle

  • Define and capture business area metadata in the approved business glossary (I.e. Information Governance catalogue) for the respective domain. Analyses critical data elements for the Business Unit and ensures the required metadata and data models are in place.

  • Implements and refines processes for managing information flow in own business area. Provides recommendations to prioritise Business Unit initiatives that must be executed in order to reduce implementation timeframes and excessive costs.

  • Guide and direct the business to the central group technology solutions to avoid duplication. Facilitate metadata stitching of business, technical and operational metadata. Define business rules and use these to evaluate the data quality of the domain.

  • Identify information management initiatives and data quality consequences and raise these with the relevant Information Management Forum and data owner.

  • Identifies information management initiatives as well as the resultant data quality implications and raises these with the relevant Information Management Forum.

  • Drive Data initiatives in support of business imperative. Drive data curation in alignment with EIM 3.2(Reservoir) as well as manage access for other parties to consume business unit data from EIM3.2(Reservoir).

  • Understand the context and value chain of the business. Oversee and communicate the data lifecycle stages and governance requirements for the different stages.

    Stakeholder management

  • Influences the ideation process within Business Unit for data related initiatives and processes to ensure that the data in Business Unit always has the highest integrity.

  • Provides input into policies and standard for data quality. Attends data governance forums within the Business Unit (where required).

  • Develops and maintains a formal stakeholder management framework: Identifies stakeholders, responsibilities and escalations framework. Develops and maintains RACI framework.

  • Monitors movement of stakeholders (individuals and roles). Actively engages with stakeholders to fulfil and deliver IM and business objectives. Keeping track of data stakeholders in the different governance sub-committees.

    Qualifications

  • Degree in IT and Computer Sciences or Business Commerce or Finance and Accounting

  • AWS cloud and Azure certified (preferred)

  • DAMA certified (preferred)

  • 5 - 7 years experience in Experience in data / information systems within financial services preferred.

  • 5 - 7 experience in engaging with multiple stakeholders across a variety of disciplines.

  • Previous experience in Management of data / Information and Reporting using tools such as SQL, Teradata, Cognos, Qlikview, SSAS, SSRS, etc.
