    Job Purpose

  • To grow the Education Lending book portfolio and manage risk appetite by implementing the sector lending objectives across Business and Commercial Banking South Africa. Provides input into the development of the credit risk appetite policy and mandate and monitors adherence in alignment with Education Sector objectives. To guide provinces on the preparation of quality credit applications for approval by Credit.

    Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

    Client

  • Designs appropriate templates to be used at business assessment committee and credit review meetings. Provides guidance to the Provincial Public Sector teams and Account Executives to complete theafore-mentioned templates.4

  • Provides input to provincial Public Sector tender specifications (compliance) inter alia pricing and structuring.

  • Compiles management information as input into the provincial Public Sector budgeting process.

  • Where required, manages customer correspondence / contacts / relationships centrally from head office.

  • Acts as a central advisory / information service point to Client

  • Solutions for Education Sector matters when required.

  • On request, provides relevant areas in the bank with Education Sector client information / individual research.

  • Manages client correspondence (i.e. contacts / relationships centrally from head office (where required).

    Financial Management

  • Monitors excesses (i.e. overdrawn facilities) daily in consultation with Credit. Provides guidance to the provincial Public Sector and Account Executive teams: ocompiles credit applications that addresses all relevant criteria for new business deals; ocompletes annual reviews on existing credit facilities for customers according to stipulated terms of sanction.

  • Compiles credit applications in conjunction with provincial Client

  • Coverage teams for complex business deals, where it is envisaged that the facilities and relationship need to be managed centrally (where required).

    Risk, Regulatory, Prudential & Compliance

  • Attends Credit Review Committee meetings on behalf of the Education Sector.

  • Actions relevant risk management reports (e.g. findings on compliance reports).

  • Guides and provides input to Public Sector and Account Executive teams with compiling quality credit applications including papers relevant to CRMC through informal workshops and regular visits to the provinces.

  • Drafts policy and procedure proposals for approval by the Head, Education Sector.

  • Reports monthly on the implementation and utilization of approved policy and procedure documents.

    Data

  • Sources, prepares and extracts research on customers, (i.e., customer’s industries and potential transactions).

  • Prepares pitch presentations / customer marketing proposals / conference presentations (including basic financial analysis).

  • Maintains a database of Education Sector tender pipeline.

  • Guides provinces with identifying opportunities and developing customer / marketing / internal sector plans. Analyses market trends as a consequence of the aforementioned.

  • Passes on leads and relevant customer / industry / transaction information.

  • Identifies current and potential employee skill requirements in consultation with the People and Culture function.

  • Creates a culture of high performing employees across geographies and ensure employees remain in engaged in the work environment.

  • Works together with People and Culture to identify skill gaps in the teams and provides opportunities for employees to upskill themselves.

  • Fosters a team approach by actively building strong working relationships with management and staff across various channels.

    Minimum Qualification and Experience

    Qualifications

  • Business Commerce Degree

    Experience

  • 5-7 years Experience in the design and development of customer value propositions. Experience in credit fundamentals and preparing credit papers. Previous experience within Consumer and Business Banking environment.
