Job Purpose

  • To lead, develop and manage credit evaluation and credit risk management teams in support of Business, Agri, Entrepreneur, Personal and Lifestyle segments (“the Segments”) asset growth targets for a Super Catchment or Catchments within a province.

  • To comprehensively manage the credit risk of the lending portfolio of “the Segments” for the Super Catchment or Catchments, specifically in respect of originations, assessment of credit risk, sanctions, credit risk management, account maintenance and distressed and high-risk accounts in keeping with the credit policies, guidelines and risk appetite.

  • Supports and proactively leads the team to support business partners and ecosystem methodology in understanding and meeting client lending needs, ultimately supporting the Future Ready Transformation of the organisation. To have overall responsibility for a designated Segment and to champion/sponsor all strategies and processes related thereto.

    Key Responsibilites

    Credit evaluations

  • Ensures that credit evaluation processes and good quality of decisions are executed effectively in “the Segments” credit teams, within the parameters of the relevant individual product policies and/or multiple product policy.

  • Develops relevant lending strategies (in conjunction with other key stakeholders) to proactively manage the bank’s credit risk for “the Segments”.

    Credit Risk management

  • Manages and holds ultimate responsibility for the credit risk team. Oversees the Credit Risk Management team and ensures that they effectively prepare agreements, manage fulfilment of pre-conditions for drawdown of loans, release limits and manage post and ongoing conditions of sanctions.

    Operations processes

  • Ensures that there are detailed standard operating procedures and service level agreements in place. Ensures compliance with credit policies/ legislation.

  • Formulates and implements policies, process, procedures and controls that are aligned to Group Risk, general financial services regulation and legislation.

    Management information

  • Analyses operational information and extracts insights into operational efficiencies of the teams. Analyses MI pack and, based on the data, implements strategies. Prepares executive summaries and MI packs for Manco’s.

  • Ensure that information generated in the operating environment meets the needs of the business partners.

  • Pro-actively reviews the CRA (Credit Risk Assurance) reports and hind-sighting assessments to identify actions which can be taken to eliminate potential risks to the bank and customer.

    Project management

  • Participates in projects and any ad-hoc functions, including training of staff and support of Labs and Customer Journeys. From time to time oversees and manages projects (as required).

  • Reviews processes and ensures consistent execution and fulfilment of undertakings.

    People management

  • As
    a senior leader of the provincial credit teams, leadership of people and teams is crucial, specifically as regards development of people and proactive management of change.

  • Responsible for inspiring, leading and managing the team. Ensures team understands the vision and goals for PBB SA, Credit and the province, adopting and co-creating appropriate goals in collaboration with the Provincial Credit Head and the team.

    Stakeholder management

  • Shares in the responsibility with business to ensure book growth opportunities are identified and pro-actively pursued, adopting a solution driven mindset and eliminating obstacles wherever possible.

  • Builds and maintains relationships within the broader credit team and business stakeholders. Networks and builds strong mutual relationships within the RBB Lending Credit Team and with business partners and stakeholders.

    Client Engagement

  • Attends client visits to understand clients and their businesses, and to explain credit risk or structure or conditions of complex facilities where needed.

  • Client engagements may be in person or telephonic. Supports business to understand clients and whether lending opportunities fall within risk appetite. Performs regular suite/CST visits.

  • Visits watchlist clients as required in support of Business, Support and recoveries teams.
    Visits high value clients in area they support. Supports Credit Risk and/or Debt Care team as regards clients on the Watchlist /CRC schedules as per processes.

    Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification such as a Business/ Legal or Credit degree or similar qualification.

  • More than 10 years experience Credit evaluations experience, preferably across Business, Entrepreneur, Lifestyle and Personal segments.

  • Deep understanding of credit principles and financial statements, particularly as relates to Business Lending. Understands collateral, credit risk and collections processes.

  • Previous experience in managing a team responsible for the account management of a lending portfolio from a risk/credit perspective. Previous people management experience.

  • Previous Agri credit experience and/or Structured and Specialised Lending credit experience is an advantage.
