St. Lukes Orthopaedics & Trauma Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Nurse Jobs in Kenya;The NICU Nurse will provide comprehensive, high‑quality, and specialized nursing care to critically ill, premature, or low‑birth‑weight neonates.

The successful candidate will ensure safe, evidence‑based practices, deliver immediate lifesaving interventions, support neonatologists and pediatricians in multidisciplinary teams, and provide compassionate, family‑centered care across the continuum of neonatal health.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced nursing care to critically ill neonates in the NICU

  • Continuously monitor and assess neonatal vital signs, cardiac rhythms, respiratory status, and neurological parameters

  • Manage and troubleshoot NICU equipment including incubators, ventilators, CPAP machines, phototherapy units, and infusion pumps

  • Administer neonatal medications, IV fluids, TPN, and blood products accurately

  • Assist neonatologists and pediatricians with advanced procedures such as intubations, umbilical line insertions, lumbar punctures, and surfactant administration

  • Coordinate immediate resuscitation and stabilization of neonates in acute distress

  • Perform routine and emergency interventions including oxygen therapy, gastric tube feeding, and meticulous skin and umbilical care

  • Provide family‑centered education on neonatal health, breastfeeding, KMC, and safe discharge guidelines

  • Interpret diagnostic investigations including ABG panels, labs, and radiological findings

  • Maintain precise documentation, care plans, and handover records

  • Participate in ward rounds, audits, mortality reviews, and quality improvement projects

  • Mentor and supervise junior nurses, interns, and students

  • Enforce strict infection prevention and control standards

  • Participate in nursing shift schedules, emergency response, and on‑call rosters

  • Undertake other duties as assigned by the Nursing Officer in Charge

    Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (KRCHN / BScN)

  • Higher Diploma in Neonatal Nursing or Critical Care Nursing (Neonatal specialization)

  • Valid registration and Annual Practising Licence from the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK)

  • Minimum of 3 years’ post‑specialization experience in a busy NICU within a Level 4–6 hospital

  • Valid certifications in NRP and PALS highly advantageous

  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required

  • Advanced clinical and technical skills in neonatal intensive care and resuscitation

  • Strong decision‑making and rapid problem‑solving abilities during emergencies

  • Situational leadership and multidisciplinary collaboration skills

  • Outstanding communication skills for compassionate family engagement

  • High ethical standards and strict adherence to nursing practice

  • Patient‑centered, empathetic approach to neonatal care

  • Proven resilience under pressure in high‑stress environments

  • Meticulous documentation and organizational skills

  • Commitment to CPD and evidence‑based quality improvement
