St Andrew’s School, Turi is highly respected in Kenya and regarded as one of the leading international schools in East Africa.

Numbering 620 pupils, it comprises two semi-autonomous schools: a Preparatory School of circa 250 pupils between the ages of 3 and 13 and a Senior School of circa 370 pupils between the ages of 13 and 18.

It is fully coeducational and the great majority are boarders. The School has an overtly Christian foundation and sees its overall aim as encouraging young men and women to ‘live and lead with integrity’.

St Andrew’s School, Turi is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff to share this commitment.

All successful job applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening, including reference checks with previous employers and a criminal record check with the DBS or its equivalent. We are seeking to appoint professionals of the highest standard.

The Role

  • St Andrew’s Senior School is seeking to appoint an experienced Head of Art to contribute to this vibrant subject.
  • Art is a compulsory subject in Year 9 and
    a popular examination subject in Years 10-13.
  • There are many opportunities to develop extra-curricular art both within and outside of the school.
  • Painting, drawing, sculpture, photography and
    computer-generated art are all media with which the students work.
  • The post of Head of Creative Arts Faculty may be available to a suitably qualified
    candidate.
  • The ability to teach a second subject would be highly advantageous.
  • In addition, the role of assistant house parent would also be available to the right candidate
  • St Andrew’s is committed to providing a vibrant co-curricular and boarding program to which all staff contribute.

    Terms and Conditions

    Remuneration

    There is a generous overall remuneration package as detailed below (the cost of living in Kenya is significantly lower than in the UK):

  • Salary: The successful applicant will be placed on the Main Pay Scale.
  • Accommodation: suitable rent free accommodation will be provided as a taxable benefit. Domestic and gardening help is arranged by the School, but paid for, at local rates, by the applicant.
  • School fees (where applicable): there is a 100% fee remission for staff children throughout the School; places are subject to the School’s
    normal entry requirements. Fee remission
    is a taxable benefit.
  • Medical care: all members of staff and their families are covered under a comprehensive insurance scheme.
  • Pension: the School operates a defined contribution pension scheme in which the employer and employee each contribute 6% of monthly
    salary. For employees emigrating from Kenya at the end of their contract, the full value of the contributions, plus accumulated interest,
    can be withdrawn from the scheme.
  • Relocation: outward and return flights for the applicant, and for his/ her spouse and dependent children up to the age of 18 as applicable,
    together with a freight allowance, at the beginning and end of the contract period, are paid for by the School. Applicable to staff
    recruited from outside the country.
  • Meals: these are provided during term time as a taxable benefit.
  • Facilities: extensive sports facilities are open to use by staff and their families
