Club Manager

St Andrew’s School , Turi, Kenya is seeking to appoint a Club Manager

Reporting to the Director of St Andrew’s School and the Club President the Club Manager in consultation with the Phoenix Staff Club Committee and will be responsible for the management and development of the Rising Phoenix Staff Club and the development of the Tsavo Cafeteria.

The successful applicant will be key in the day to day management of the

Phoenix Staff Club to improve profitability and to develop the services offered as well as creating a programme for social events for the School’s staff members.

St Andrew’s School – Background

St Andrew’s School, Turi, is highly respected in Kenya and regarded as one of the leading international schools in East Africa.

With approximately 570 pupils, it
comprises two semi-autonomous Schools: a Preparatory School of 240 pupils between the ages of 3 and 13 and a Senior School of 330 pupils between the ages of 13 and 18.

It is fully coeducational and the great majority of pupils are boarders. The School has an overtly Christian foundation and sees its overall aim as encouraging young men and women to ‘live and lead with integrity’.

The Prep School was founded in 1931, and is a long standing member of IAPS. It aims to provide a world class education, with outstanding teaching and learning central to its vision of creating leaders that will change their country, continent
and the world for good.

St Andrew’s has a strong Christian foundation and ethos which define and govern the nature and work of the School today. While children from all faith backgrounds are welcome, the School’s Christian character is clearly evident in
its underlying educational philosophy and practice.

The School is situated on a beautiful 400 acres site on the western slopes of the Rift Valley some 200km NW of Nairobi, near the Equator and at 2600m where the climate is temperate. It is malaria free.

Responsibilities

  • The overarching responsibilities of the Club Manager include:
  • Provision of excellent management of the Rising Phoenix Staff Club to improve profitability and to develop the services offered.
  • To develop and implement operation systems and procedures.
  • To establish and improve best practice with a view to reproducing the same
    at the Tsave Café’.
  • Liaise with the Finance Director and the Rising Phoenix Staff Club Committee on all matters related to financial record keeping and
    budgetary allocations.
  • Oversee the stock procurement and cost control
  • Conduct sales analysis and assessment of the popularity and profitability of
    café’ products.
  • Communicate to the community members on the weekly Club activities and
    schedules.
  • Train and maintain an effective team of workers at all times and prepare schedules for shift coverage including evaluation of all activities of the club
    to ensure health and safety is maintained at all times.
  • Oversee all training sessions of staff and ensure compliance to the School expectations and ethos including the safeguarding of children policy of the School.
  • Prepare reports for all staff performance in the Club and to hold weekly meetings to design effective strategies to achieve all Club objectives.

  • An outgoing personality that demonstrates strong leadership
    skills with
    the ability to independent judgement.
  • A critical thinker with analytical problem solving skills.
  • Client focused with good organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience in financial management including records and book keeping
    in a restaurant set-up.
  • High level of discretion and confidentiality
  • Highly literate and numerate, excellent in the use of IT and with a keen
    eye for detail
  • High work standards evidenced by a consistently thorough detailed and
    organised approach

    Qualifications
  • A record of good academic achievement and educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Relevant high level professional training or financial management communication

    Knowledge
  • A demonstrable understanding of the principles of procurement, stock taking and cafeteria management systems.
  • A clear understanding of and affinity for the
    School’s ethos
  • A commitment to promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children
  • Substantial experience of management of Members Club or its equivalent.
  • IT literate with a working knowledge of relevant accounting and management
    systems

    Experience
  • Significant experience of managing a Cafeteria or restaurant in a relevant environment
  • A track record of successful introduction and
    monitoring of a restaurants systems manual with the ability to drive profits margins levels.
  • The ability to write and verbally communicate
    messages that are clear and concise.
  • Relevant experience in an restaurant or cafeteria context
  • The ability to develop and implement financial
    management systems.
  • Experience in the procurement and stock recording procedures.
  • Proven ability to create social events within a gated community.

    Terms and Conditions
  • Medical care: The successful candidate will be offered medical insurance under an insurance scheme.
  • Pension: the School operates a defined contribution pension scheme in
    which the employer and employee each contributes 6% of monthly salary.
  • For employees emigrating from Kenya at the end of their contract, the full value of the contributions, plus accumulated interest,can be withdrawn from the scheme.
  • Meals: these are provided free of charge during term time
  • Facilities: extensive sports facilities are open to use by staff and their families

    Hours of work
  • The successful candidate will required to work for a total of 20-25 hours a week includes working in the evening and at weekends as required.
  • They will also be expected to take a full and active part in the uplifting of social events within the School.
