South Nyanza Sugar Company Limited (SonySugar) is a State Corporation under the Ministry of
Agriculture Livestock and Fisheries and a key player in the sugar industry in Kenya.

SonySugar’s primary mandate is to increase national sugar production and reduce dependence on sugar imports, create employment opportunities and enhance regional and national development in line
with national development goals articulated in the vision 2030.

The Board of SonySugar wishes to recruit a qualified experienced, dynamic, visionary, dedicated, innovative and pragmatic leader to fill the above position.

The position calls for high-level maturity, and ability to effectively interact and operate at management and Board level to realize
Sony Sugar’s vision “To be the leading world class manufacturer of preferred sugar and associated products for the delight of customers”.

The Chief Executive Officer will report to the
Board.

The Chief Executive Officer’s Role will be:

  • Leading, implementation and review as
    necessary, the Corporate policies, strategic
    objectives, strategies and relevant activities in SONYSUGAR to ensure that the Corporate vision and mission, business goals objectives and performance
    targets are realized.
  • Review/formulate a monitoring and evaluation mechanism to ensure effective implementation of the corporate strategic plan and achievement of the corporate performance targets.
  • Ensure business operating results meet
    shareholders targets and expectations.
  • Formulate and implement best practice
    management principles and effective
    communication between management
    and the Board of Directors as well as Persons required must have:
  • Good understanding of Agriculture
    Processing and Manufacturing Sector/
    Industries.
  • Ability to think and act strategically while managing a mixture of mission based and financial performance targets.
  • Notable success in leading a successful team through creativity, innovation and leadership skills.
  • Experience in nurturing corporate business relationship and establishment of long-term partnerships with stakeholders.
  • Strong influential and executive leadership styles, articulate and confident personality.

    Chief Executive Officer/ Managing Director
  • Formulate and implement effective
    financial and procurement policies, plans
    and procedure to spur profitability in the
    Company.
  • Oversight Brand development and marketing, and ensure continuous growth and value creations in services and products.
  • Responsible for business growth and return on investment in line with shareholders expectations. Undertake market reviews business intelligence to
    guide the Board of Directors.
  • Formulate and implement best practice Human Resources Management policies and ensure provisions of friendly environment in the Company to build a positive corporate image and good
    relations with the stakeholders.
  • Responsibility to the shareholders and Board of Directors for all Corporation assets.
  • Responsible for Corporate Risk and business continuity assurance to ensure achievement of financial and operating goals and objectives.
  • Oversights Corporate Governance in management practice and compliance with relevant statutes and applicable legislation at National and County levels.
  • Engages external stakeholders and Government, directs CSR and role plays as Corporate Principal Spokesperson of the Company.
  • Outstanding records of senior level leadership achievement in a dynamic corporate setting.
  • Knowledge and experience of Kenyan
    Labour Laws.
  • Knowledge of Performance Based Management.
  • Be a team player with effective supervisory, negotiation, analytical, employee relations, excellent
    planning and organization, mentoring, coaching and strong interpersonal and management skills.
  • Ability to inculcate results based management culture to improve performance and accountability for all the staff and top leadership in the
    institution.
  • Self-driven and with impeccable integrity and honesty in the line with Chapter 6 of the Constitution of Kenya.
  • Excellent Communication skills.

    Qualifications and Experience
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Food Technology, Science, Agriculture, Business
    Administration, Social Sciences or Economics from a recognized University in Kenya.
  • A Master’s Degree in any of the following fields: Engineering, Manufacturing, Food Science
    Technology, Agriculture related field, Marketing, Business Administration, Economics or any
    other relevant field from a University recognized in Kenya is an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of Sugar Engineering Technology and Production Management will be an added
    advantage.
  • Possess a minimum of fifteen (15) years’ experience, ten (10) of which must be at a senior
    management level in a reputable organization in the Sugar industry.
  • Demonstrated or professional and management competency as reflected in work performance
    and results.
  • Proficient in ICT with ability to use it in improving business operations.
  • International business exposure / experience and working in an ISO Certified environment.

    Other Requirements:
  • A Certificate of Good Conduct from Criminal Investigations Department(CID)
  • A Clearance Certificate from the Higher Education Loans Boards(HELB)
  • A Tax Compliance Certificate from the Kenya Revenue Authority(KRA)
  • A Clearance of a professional body in the area of Specialization
  • A Clearance Certificate by the Credit Reference Bureau(CRB)
  • A Clearance by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC)
