Who we are

SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation.

The organization started its humanitarian work with the opening of its first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974.

The organization has been providing life-saving provisions such as food, water and health services for a very significant number of children devastated by severe drought and the subsequent famine.

Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care and are at risk of losing their parental care.

Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia aspires that every child grows up with love, respect and security.

We are looking for a Program Accountant who will be responsible for income, expenditure and property and transactions of the program location.

Your role....

As a Program Accountant, you will be in charge of the following:

  • Registering and updating monthly register books.
  • Batching the financial data from register book to Navision financials software.
  • Checking petty cash payment
  • Checking all payments are supported by source documents.
  • Closely following up food purchases to all Family Houses & youth homes and strictly check the repayments & settlements.
  • Facilitating & following up travel advances and their settlements.
  • Facilitate the preparation of price analysis sheet & purchase order to suppliers.
  • Preparing salary/wage payments of contract employees & part-timer staff.
  • Ensuring the timely settlement of advance payments and program location obligations (taxes,
    provident fund, Pension etc.)
  • Preparing and submitting monthly reports with supporting documentation to SOS children’s Villages Ethiopia National office Finance Department.
  • Monitoring, operating/administrative expenses and external funds
  • Preparing periodic reports of the public funded projects/ Earmarked projects.
  • Ensuring that all financial and accounting related files and records reflect high professional standards
  • Preparing cash flow forecasts on monthly and quarterly basis and plans for timely preparation and replenishment for local partners and others as necessary and applicable.
  • Check monthly financial documents & verify their completeness.
  • Coding transaction documents and records entries in proper accounts.
  • Keeping proper record of fixed assets and property.
  • Confirm copy of GRR, SIV & receipts are filed & custodian register is updated.
  • Conducting the inventory counts of properties for the program annually & semi-annually
  • Coordinating daily cash collections such as refund from staff, farm income & other income and follow-up intact deposit of collected income.
  • Preparing summary for KDI transfers via bank advices
  • Facilitate the timely transfer and settlement of project implementation budget to distant projects.

    The must haves:

  • Diploma /BA Degree in Accounting

    Experience:

  • 4-2 years’ relevant work experience
  • Basic computer skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to collate and analyze financial and other data in a clear and coherent manner
  • Ability to prioritize and work under pressure
  • Ability to work with children or vulnerable people in an appropriate and safe manner in accordance with the SOS CVE Child Protection Policy
  • Knowledge of Accounting software
