Who we are....

SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. The organization started its humanitarian work with the opening of its first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974.

The organization has been providing life-saving provisions such as food, water and health services for a very significant number of children devastated by severe drought and the subsequent famine.

Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care and are at risk of losing their parental care.

Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia aspires that every child grows up with love, respect and security.

We are looking for a competent and able Humanitarian Response project (HRP) Coordinator who can lead the planning and implementation of projects carried out for enhancing social and economic stability of Drought-affected Households and Resilience Building for refugees, IDPs and host communities in Gode and Adadle Districts

Your role....

As a Humanitarian Response Project Coordinator you will be in charge of the following:

  • Enhancing Social and Economic Stability of Drought-affected Households and Rebuild projects
  • Identifying key stakeholders for their participation in planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the project.
  • Assessing and updating information for the project implementation with participation of staff and stakeholders.
  • Leading the implementation of planned activities to attain the result and objectives of the project.
  • Supporting the field officers in community mobilization and management
  • Actively develop and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders including donors, government actors and other relevant actors
  • Gathering zonal level security information from zonal security office and keep on updating the field staff
  • Managing local procurements for the project and ensuring procedures are made according to objectives, actions and periods outlined in the plan.
  • Supporting the development of strong local networks of relevant stakeholders, to provide for comprehensive ‘safety nets’ of relevant support services, as well as alliances for the promotion and protection of child rights.
  • Leading, Motivating and managing the two project team in the district level
  • Assessing the capacity gaps of the project staff and recommend their development areas
  • Participating staff recruitment
  • Ensuring that the project’s financial
    resources are used modestly and efficiently.
  • Ensuring all expenditure and resource utilization is according to the annual plan and budget.
  • Monitoring Budget for the project and make modification where required
  • Developing and maintaining trust and good relationship between the project and its partners by working in collaboration with the respective sector institutions, collaborating agencies, volunteer workers and communities in the project area.
  • Putting in place effective monitoring and evaluation plan and system, as a basis for ongoing monitoring, self-evaluation and external impact evaluation.
  • Providing stakeholders with regular up-dates on project activities and results, including regular written reports on a monthly, quarterly and annual bases basis.
  • Ensuring effective documentation of key results, activities and challenges of the project
  • Provide direct supervisor with regular up-dates on project activities and results, including regular written reports, according to organizational requirements.
  • Secure regular financial management reports, including budget vs. expenditure reports, as required for the effective management of program resources.
  • Conducting regular Bi-weekly and monthly meetings with field staff and share the minute with the Gode program management teams

    The must haves:

  • BA Degree in Disaster Risk Management or Development Studies, Social Sciences, Agricultural Economics, Natural Resource Management
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in leading and coordinating humanitarian aid and/or development work in multi-cluster INGOs
  • Proven Experience working in child protection in emergencies, health, nutrition, WASH, Livelihood, food security, youth empowerment and resilience building
  • Experience and knowledge of emergency response and resilience building project management including emergency needs assessment, project design, development and implementation
  • Good understanding of humanitarian issues and sympathy with the aims and objectives of the organization; commitment to humanitarian principles and the Red Cross and INGO’s code of conduct
  • Excellent organizational and problem solving skills
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances
  • Ability to cope with stress; patience and flexibility
  • Experience with establishing strong and effective working relationships with colleagues from different backgrounds, cultures and experience
  • Able to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with colleagues in course of work
  • Local knowledge in terms of its culture, economic and social trends is an asset
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with good written and spoken English and Somali.
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Willingness and ability to frequently travel to the field up to 70% of working time
