SoCha LLC - Gender Expert - Training and Resource Development Jobs in Kenya


Objectives

  • USAID/KEA seeks to augment the capacity of the Mission’s Gender Advisor in supporting gender integration throughout the six project designs currently underway.

  • MSP aims to source two qualified mid- and senior-level gender and GBV experts available for short-term technical assistance (STTA) for
    approximately three months to actively participate in the Mission’s Project Design

    Teams

  • To advise on gender integration and

  • To lead on the development of required project-level gender analyses for the six designs.

  • One expert will have a broad gender focus in order to be able to support any of the projects to bring a gender perspective to their theories of change.

  • The latter-engaged expert should also have specific sectoral expertise in integrating gender with economic growth/markets, environment and/or resilience.

    Scope

    The Gender Expert 2 – Training and Resource Development will provide short-term technical assistance (STTA) by working hand-in-hand with the Mission’s Gender Advisor, supporting her to:

  • Collaborate with the Mission Gender Advisor and other technical office gender POCs to carry out multi-sectoral internal and external gender training on upcoming/ new Agency policy, Mission gender strategy, developing and utilizing gender sensitive indicators.

  • Incorporate relevant literature, key USAID activity documents and sector specific data
    sets. (priority areas: natural resource management, health system strengthening and
    market systems) to inform trainings.

  • Incorporate multi-sectoral GBV prevention and response information to inform Gender-
    based violence prevention and response (from a multi-sectoral and integrated approach perspective).

  • Develop technical resources that address gender equality, female empowerment, male
    engagement, and gender-based violence prevention and response to strengthen gender
    integration within the six projects.

    Attend project team meetings to advise on gender dynamics and consideration, including but not limited to:

  • Defining key results with a gender lens

  • Looking at ways to engage successful models of behavior change and system change
    through locally-led solutions, new and underutilized partners (including men/boys)

  • Advancing partnership models and development practices that build the capacity and commitment of local actors on
    gender equality

  • Ensuring monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) efforts related to the projects
    incorporate gender considerations and capture progress on gender equality, female empowerment, male engagement, and/or gender-based violence prevention (as
    relevant)

    Deliverables

  • Training agenda, facilitation guides, presentation materials, and execution for 6 trainings

  • 3 technical resources that address gender equality, female empowerment, male engagement,
    and gender-based violence prevention and response to strengthen gender integration within the six projects

  • Weekly meetings with USAID/KEA Gender Advisor

    Gender Expert Qualifications

  • Strong experience in gender analysis, gender integration, and gender-based violence prevention and response

  • Experience in integrating gender equity, women economic empowerment, and gender-based
    violence prevention and response into agriculture, food systems, market systems, education, environment, and other related sectors

  • Bachelor’s Degree & 6+ Years’ Experience; or Masters’ Degree & 4+ Years’ Experience; or PHD &

  • 2 Years’ Experience

    Sector expertise in at least two of the following areas

  • Health

  • Education

  • Governance and conflict mitigation

  • Natural resource management

  • Agriculture, nutrition and food security

  • Economic growth including women’s economic empowerment, Women’s Global

  • Development and Prosperity (W-GDP) Initiative, digital technology, access to capital, access to markets, trade facilitation and border management, economic policy
    development, legal and regulatory reform, market systems development, infrastructure
    development and/or technology

  • A high level of familiarity with USAID and its program cycle.

  • Ability to think strategically and integrate diverse information from varied sources

  • Training design and facilitation skills

  • Demonstrated writing and analysis skills
