    Background:

  • To support USAID/Kenya East Africa seeks to advance what self-reliance means for Kenya and the broader region.

  • To support USAID/KEA to align programming toward promoting self-reliance outcomes, SoCha LLC implements a two-year (optional third year) mission support program to enable USAID to pivot into this journey to self-reliance (J2SR).

  • The Mission Support for the Journey to Self-Reliance Pivot (MSP) supports USAID/KEA to understand context, align programs, collect data, understand complexity, and apply learning to program adaptation.

    Scope of Work:

  • The editor will support the USAID HSS design team members to write activity design narrative; and compile activity design documents and supporting documents.

  • The editor will edit activity design deliverables, adhering to USAID style guidelines, maintaining consistency of voice and style, and ensuring all text is free of grammatical, punctuation, spelling, or typographical errors.

  • The editor will conduct substantive edits, copyedits, or proofread, depending on the needs of the text.

  • The editor will collaborate with the co-creation facilitator to ensure design documents meet MSP and USAID quality standards.

    Roles and Responsibilities

    • The editor will support the USAID HSS design team members to write activity design narrative; and compile activity design documents and supporting documents.

    • The editor will edit activity design deliverables, adhering to USAID style guidelines, maintaining consistency of voice and style, and ensuring all text is free of grammatical, punctuation, spelling, or typographical errors.

    • The editor will conduct substantive edits, copyedits, or proofread, depending on the needs of the text.

    • The editor will collaborate with the co-creation facilitator to ensure design documents meet MSP and USAID quality standards.

    • Responsible for the quality of all documents
    produced for the HSS design.

    • Edit and proofread documents in line with the USAID communications standards and style guide.

    • Ensure logic, structure, and consistency in design products (e.g. fonts, page numbering and overall document flow); correct grammatical and punctuation errors.

    • Ensure that the language used in the design documents is consistent with USAID’s HSS Vision 2020-2030 and USAID KEA’s 2020-2025 Country Development Cooperation Strategy.

    • Work closely with the HSS design core and extended groups on technical language.

    • Help the design team better communicate findings and insights from data.

    • Work closely with the HSS design co-creation facilitator to review and complete all required design documents according to established timelines.

    Deliverables

    • First draft, edited design document.

    • Final draft, error-free design document.

    Minimum Qualifications and Experience

    • Experience working on USAID procurement documents.

    • Excellent skills in editing written text in English.

    • Ability to synthesize divergent styles to produce edited text with consistent style and tone.

    • Ability to work quickly with little direction.

    • Ability to collaborate with clients to understand intentions, expectations, and needs.

    • Attention to detail.

    • Fluent English writer with native or bilingual proficiency in English reading and writing.

    • Experience working with and securing sensitive information.

    • Bachelor’s degree in related field.

    LOE or Contract Length:

  • The consultant is expected to start working in August for a period of approximately 20-30 days with a possibility of extension.
