    Background

    SNV is a not-for-profit international development organization. Founded in the Netherlands 50 years ago, we have built a long-term, local presence in 39 of the poorest countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America.

    Our global team of local and international advisors works with local partners to equip communities, businesses and organizations with the tools, knowledge and connections they need to increase their incomes and gain access to basic services – empowering them to break the cycle of poverty and guide their own development.

    SNV Ethiopia the Netherlands Development Organization in response to the call by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to create employment opportunities for the self-reliance of refugees and host communities in Ethiopia has developed a project entitled RISE.

    RISE project has been designed in alignment with, the Jobs Compact, which aims to expand the industrialization agenda of the Ethiopian government while creating jobs for both Ethiopian citizens and refugees.

    To achieve the objectives of the project, interventions are designed to increase employability of the refugees and host community in line with the market demand (Push) while promoting inclusive business by the private sector with clear incentives (pull).

    RISE project will start from six-month pilot with high probability to extend to multi-year project.

    For the first six months, the project will partner with the selected one private company, which is willing and able to create an employment opportunity to refugee and host communities. Thus, SNV Ethiopia invites competent candidates to apply for the position of Workforce Development & Gender Advisor.

    Duration of the position is 5 months with possible extension depending on the performance of the incumbent and the availability of fund and donor approval.

    Purpose of the Job

    The Workforce development and Gender Advisor shall be responsible for developing the profile of the refugee and host community as per the Labor demand Assessment of the identified private company, facilitate the development of tailored employability skills training scheme, facilitates demand based skills training and internship and facilitate mentoring and coaching service for the private firm employees.

    This position will be responsible also to identify legal, social and psychological concerns of refugees and

    facilitate linkage with relevant service providers.

    Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the establishment of digital database for refugee and host community job seekers and job opportunities through a service provider
  • Facilitate short listing and job matching between job seekers and Private Company
  • Facilitate the development of tailored employability skills training schemes
  • Facilitate demand –based employability skills training
  • Facilitate mentoring and coaching
  • Facilitate work permit and other relevant documents for refugees
  • Lobby with key government stakeholders on access to basic services and legal documentation for refugees
  • Facilitate psychosocial and other protection support
  • Facilitate company level gender analysis, development and implementation of action plan to address the gender gaps identified
  • Promote Refugee friendly enabling environment
  • Create awareness at refugees level to better understand their rights and responsibilities as employee
  • Facilitate political economic assessment
  • Accomplish any other assignment as requested

    Education

  • Master’s Degree in relevant discipline: international development, social services, public administration, human resources, business, economics, trade, management, education

    Skills and Competencies

  • Substantial experience (at least 5 years ) in a relevant area such as creating employment opportunity, workforce develop programs , training provision, coaching mentoring and gender programing in Ethiopia
  • Demonstrated ability to work closely with refugee and host community, private sector actors,
  • Facilitation skills and good understanding of current refugee and host community integration framework.
  • Openness to continuously innovate, learn, and share
  • Strong interpersonal skills with evidence of ability to productively interact with a wide range and levels of individual and organizations;
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible and creative;
  • Strong communications and technical skills;
  • Good experience and knowledge in capturing learning and documentation
  • Other relevant knowledge and specific experiences related to the aims and focus of the programme within the context of Ethiopia.
  • Self-reliant in computer skills
