SIHA Network Finance Officer Jobs in Uganda


  • The Finance Officer under the direct supervision of the Regional Head of Finance and Administration and SIHA Regional Director will perform various accounting and finance tasks according to SIHA work standard operating procedures.

  • The ‘FO’ should have an understanding of the principles of accounting and financing, working knowledge of account payables, receivables, budgets, and expenditure control is essential. Ability to perform financial analyses and to record financial data and budget items, regularly and accurately. Experience with QUICKBOOKs or a similar accounting system is necessary.

    Primary Responsibilities

  • Maintaining and mange SIHA accounts under the supervision of SIHA head of finance and to follow the guidance of SIHA financial policy

  • Prepare project proposals budgets in line with funding requirements

  • Draft and prepare financial reports internally and externally alongside the head of finance

  • Prepare projects financial statements and follow-up on projects transactions and balances

  • Ensure that all the financial data are entered into the accounting software system timely and correctly

  • Ensure that SIHA staff are following the financial regulation

  • Develop and maintain financial record keeping and reporting systems.

  • Work on the payroll, billing, receivables, payables, cash receipts, cash disbursements, and general ledger functions.

  • Carefully documents and oversee the numbers of SIHA journal released to sale points and document income and keep clear records

  • Document SIHA membership fee payment

  • Monitor and follow-up on receivables that have been outstanding for unusually long periods of time.

  • Produce monthly financial statements including balance sheet, profit/loss statements, and accumulative general ledger using a computer-based accounting system.

  • Ensure that all general ledger accounts are reconciled to subsidiary records on weekly basis.

  • Prepare weekly closing general ledger entries.

  • Review reconciliations to ensure that they are prepared properly and follow-up on any unusual items.

  • Revise bank statements and undertake regular financial updates , Reconcile bank statement accounts, and prepares related journal entries

  • Carefully review projects agreements and ensure to fully understand all articles therein

  • Work together with the finance colleague on filing of tax forms

  • Oversee, in conjunction with the finance team; preparation of annual audit.

  • Ensure that invoices are acquired in line with the regulations in the Accounting Manual

  • Perform other duties as assigned

    Ideal Candidate Qualifications

  • A four-year University degree in Accounting is required or equivalent years
    of experience in accounting filed.

  • The candidate must be computer literate, including knowledge of word processing (Word), mail merge, scheduling (Outlook), spreadsheets (Excel) and other data base applications

  • Experience working in the human rights / non-governmental organization sector, with ability to provide relevant references;

  • Hard-worker, with ability to put in extra hours during peak periods of activity;

  • Professional commitment, strong work ethics and integrity and accountability are essential for this job. Strong communication skills and ability to work under pressure are needed in this post.
