Sign of Hope Project Coordinator Jobs in Kenya;The Project Coordinator will lead the WAHAFA‑supported Building Early Action Capacity through Local Ownership and Cross‑Border Networks (BEACON) Omo‑Turkana project. The role focuses on the Omo River–Lake Turkana corridor, coordinating the participatory development, testing, and validation of a locally owned, operational, and protection‑sensitive cross‑border Early Action Protocol (EAP) for drought and flooding.
Reporting to the Country Representative – Kenya, the Coordinator will provide day‑to‑day leadership, grant and project management, monitoring and evaluation, documentation, learning, and reporting. The role requires close collaboration with SoH Kenya, SoH Ethiopia, SoH Germany, local partners, government institutions, and technical stakeholders.
Core Duties
Project Coordination & EAP Development
Coordinate day‑to‑day implementation of the BEACON Omo‑Turkana project in line with proposal, workplan, budget, donor requirements, and SoH policies
Lead participatory development, testing, and validation of the cross‑border EAP for drought and flooding
Maintain and update the Project Implementation Plan, milestones, and deliverables tracker
Coordinate technical processes (risk/vulnerability analysis, stakeholder mapping, forecast review, trigger validation, scenario exercises, simulations)
Organize project meetings, missions, consultations, workshops, and validation processes
Identify challenges, facilitate corrective action, and escalate issues requiring decisions
Support preparation and consolidation of the final cross‑border EAP and country annexes
Cross‑Border Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement
Serve as principal coordination link between SoH Kenya, Ethiopia, Germany, Diocese of Lodwar, Caritas Ethiopia‑Soddo, and cross‑border structures
Act as secretariat to the Cross‑border EAP Steering Committee/Coordination Group
Facilitate engagement with authorities, disaster risk management structures, meteorological institutions, and technical working groups
Ensure clear communication and information flow across Kenya and Ethiopia workstreams
Strengthen complementarity and institutional relationships with other humanitarian/development initiatives
Grants, Financial & Operational Management
Coordinate donor grant implementation and ensure compliance with objectives, timelines, and regulations
Monitor budget utilization, review budget‑versus‑actual performance, and support corrective measures
Coordinate partner workplans, budgets, reporting schedules, and deliverables
Work with procurement, logistics, finance, and administration for timely operational support
Maintain project documentation and contribute to donor reporting, audits, and compliance checks
Monitoring,
Evaluation, Accountability, Learning & Documentation
Coordinate monitoring systems (indicator tracking, milestone tracking, activity monitoring)
Undertake regular field monitoring, reviews, and reflections to improve quality
Document consultations, technical decisions, progress, challenges, lessons learned, and good practices
Prepare timely, accurate reports, learning products, case studies, and presentations
Promote systematic learning and information sharing among partners and stakeholders
Capacity Strengthening & Wider Programme Support
Identify capacity‑strengthening needs and coordinate technical/project management support
Promote adherence to humanitarian principles, safeguarding, accountability, and conflict‑sensitive programming
Contribute to assessments, project design, proposals, reporting, and programme quality processes
Support other SoH humanitarian and development projects in Kenya and the wider region as required
Candidate Profile
Bachelor’s degree in Disaster Risk Management, International Development, Project Management, Humanitarian Action, Development Studies, Climate Change, Natural Resources Management, Social Sciences, Public Health, or related field
Minimum 5 years’ experience in project/programme coordination or management (humanitarian, resilience, DRR, or development programming)
Practical experience in humanitarian programming, including emergency, resilience, or fragile contexts
Experience managing institutional donor grants (BMZ/GFFO preferred)
Strong knowledge of grant/project cycle management, budgeting, compliance, monitoring, and reporting
Financial and grant management skills (budget monitoring, variance analysis, corrective actions)
Experience coordinating multi‑stakeholder/multi‑partner projects; cross‑border programming an advantage
Knowledge/experience in anticipatory action, early warning/early action, DRR, climate risk management, or resilience programming highly desirable
Monitoring and evaluation experience (indicator tracking, data quality review, adaptive management)
Strong documentation, learning, and knowledge‑management skills
Ability to work effectively with government, partners, communities, NGOs/INGOs, donors, and technical agencies
Experience in partner management, mentoring, and capacity strengthening
Understanding of participatory approaches, localization, and accountability to affected populations
Knowledge of humanitarian principles, safeguarding, and protection mainstreaming
Strong leadership, coordination, and facilitation skills
Analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills with attention to detail
Excellent spoken and written English; strong report‑writing and presentation skills
Advanced knowledge of MS Word, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint; project monitoring tools an advantage
Willingness to travel regularly to remote areas in Northern Kenya and Ethiopia
