Job Summary:

As an Analyst with Side B, your role will be to back stop and fill in for any activities that are taking place on that particular day or period. It is paramount that you have the ability and skills to be in front of clients and represent the company professionally while also be on the back end preparing analysis of financial statements, reports, presentations, and proposals, among others.

This is an exciting role for someone who is looking to learn extensively in the global investment world with application to Africa. It is also a role that will likely grow into a more senior role with the Company.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the Investment team in carrying out day-to-day activities for operations, clients, and research activities;

  • Write clear analytical papers, presentations, applications, and proposals;

  • Organize team resources to ensure work products are at the highest quality standards; this includes reviews of contracts, emails, work product, solicitations, and other materials associated with Side B’ public image;

  • Serve as initial point of contact for new clients;

  • Assist in developing and maintaining key relationships with clients, funds, fund managers, peer institutions, competitors, and market players who can add value to Side B;

  • Be a key resource on the Side B’ Investment team in all aspects of the investment process, including sourcing new investment ideas and relationships; leading meetings with existing and prospective managers; developing quantitative and qualitative evaluation of investment opportunities; supporting and advocating for investment views; and preparing investment recommendations for the Investment Manager;

  • Analyze and synthesize data relating to general investment concepts, as well as performance and exposures of individual managers, asset classes, and the overall portfolio and articulating key findings and trends; this includes a research function where industry, sector, market, customer, competition, and other business factor data are readily available for use cases;

  • Build business models;

  • Build financial models;

  • Conduct firm valuations using all methods;
    Write business plans;

  • Deliver credit analysis on firms, financial statements, new concepts or projects;

  • Deliver financial analysis on firms, financial statements, new concepts or projects;

  • Support the Managing Partner in developing, proposing, and disseminating relevant guidance to clients;

  • Assist in designing products or programs incorporating development finance into client activities;

  • Assist in developing, monitoring, and evaluating Side B impact;

  • Assist in developing and communicating portfolio
    management structures;

  • Create user-friendly guides, checklists, and tools for clients; examples include contracts, financial forms, financial reports, metric dashboards, among others;

  • Other duties include: taking minutes, making photo copies, preparing coffee/tea for visitors, dusting the office, running errands outside the office, binding documents, negotiating with prospective vendors and suppliers, and any other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field a must;

  • Experience working in other countries and cultures other than your own is a must;

  • At least five years of work experience in financial services or financial industry;
    Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or seeking CFA;

  • Strong and demonstrated quantitative and analytical skills;

  • Strong orientation to detail and accuracy and excellent organizational skills;

  • Excellent project management skills, including multi-stakeholder projects;

  • Strong writing and communication skills;

  • Excellent presentation and listening skills;

  • Intellectual curiosity and ability to think critically;

  • Must be proactive and open to new challenges;

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to be flexible and adaptable;

  • Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter, multi-task, and work well both independently and as a member of a team;

  • Comfortable and highly capable with Microsoft Excel, analyzing large amounts of data;

  • Familiar with MS Word, PowerPoint, Outlook & other cloud based systems for records management;

  • Ability to work well under pressure and within a small team;

  • Able to travel as needed (25-30%);

  • Experience living and working in Africa; knowledge of African social, economic and political contexts would be an asset.
