Role Overview

  • Lead day‑to‑day health care, first aid, emergency response, health records, and wellness support for the school community.

  • Manage the school clinic, provide basic medical care, support children with allergies and chronic conditions, maintain confidential records, and coordinate with families, staff, and external providers.

  • Help build Sankore’s health systems including clinic protocols, medication procedures, immunization tracking, referral pathways, and preventive health education.

    Core Responsibilities

    Student Health Care and First Aid

  • Provide first aid, medical care, and assessments for students and staff.

  • Respond to injuries, illness, and emergencies.

  • Administer prescribed medication per policy and standards.

  • Support students with chronic health needs.

    Clinic Management and Medical Readiness

  • Set up and manage the school clinic as a safe, child‑friendly space.

  • Maintain first aid supplies, medication storage, and emergency equipment.

  • Develop protocols for injury response, illness management, and referrals.

  • Support health readiness for trips, sports, and events.

    Health Records, Confidentiality, and Compliance

  • Maintain accurate and confidential student health records.

  • Track medical histories, allergies, chronic conditions, and immunizations.

  • Prepare reports for leadership while protecting confidentiality.

    Emergency Response and Health and Safety

  • Serve as key responder during incidents and emergencies.

  • Liaise with health facilities and emergency services.

  • Support development of emergency medical protocols.

  • Participate in audits, risk assessments, and drills.

    Safeguarding, Child Protection, and Student Wellbeing

  • Uphold safeguarding and child protection policies.

  • Identify and report health‑related concerns.

  • Support students’ physical, emotional, and developmental wellbeing.

    Family, Staff, and Community Partnership

  • Communicate with families about health concerns and follow‑up care.

  • Partner with teachers and staff on student
    health plans.

  • Provide guidance on first aid, hygiene, and infection prevention.

  • Support family engagement around wellness and child development.

    Health Promotion and Preventive Education

  • Support wellness initiatives on hygiene, nutrition, mental health, and infection prevention.

  • Contribute to age‑appropriate health education.

  • Monitor illness/injury patterns and recommend preventive actions.

    Founding Systems and Continuous Improvement

  • Help design clinic procedures, referral systems, and communication templates.

  • Recommend improvements to health policies and routines.

  • Use data to strengthen prevention and response.

  • Contribute to a culture of learning, reflection, and accountability.

    Qualifications and Experience

    Required

  • Diploma or degree in Nursing from a recognized institution.

  • Current registration and valid practicing license with the Nursing Council of Kenya.

  • 2–5 years of clinical nursing experience (school, pediatric, family health, emergency, or community health preferred).

  • Current certification in First Aid and CPR; BLS strongly preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of child health, medication administration, infection prevention, and emergency response.

  • Experience maintaining confidential health records and communicating with families.

  • Fluency in English; Kiswahili strongly preferred.

  • Commitment to safeguarding, inclusion, confidentiality, and child‑centered care.

    Preferred

  • Experience in international/private schools, pediatric clinics, or multicultural environments.

  • Experience supporting students with chronic conditions or individual health plans.

  • Training in child protection, mental health first aid, public health, or adolescent health.

  • Familiarity with Ministry of Health expectations and school health protocols.

  • Experience setting up or improving clinic systems and emergency protocols.
