Role Overview

  • Lead physical education and sports programming for students, reporting to the Head of Teaching and Learning.

  • Design inclusive PE lessons, build foundational movement skills, coordinate extracurricular sports, manage vendors, and develop inter‑school fixtures and competitions.

  • Emphasize inclusive PE instruction, teamwork, confidence, and safe participation for all children.

  • Safeguarding and child protection are central responsibilities.

    Core Responsibilities

    Physical Education Teaching and Learning

  • Plan and deliver engaging, inclusive PE lessons.

  • Develop students’ movement skills, coordination, balance, strength, agility, and confidence.

  • Introduce age‑appropriate games, athletics, team sports, and fitness practices.

  • Differentiate instruction for varied student needs.

    Sports Program Development

  • Build Sankore’s foundational sports program.

  • Develop pathways from PE lessons to clubs, teams, and competitions.

  • Identify priority sports suited to facilities and student interests.

  • Establish standards for training, participation, and sportsmanship.

    Extracurricular Activities and Vendor Management

  • Coordinate extracurricular sports vendors.

  • Vet, onboard, schedule, and supervise providers.

  • Ensure vendors follow safeguarding and safety standards.

  • Monitor quality of instruction and student experience.

    Fixtures, Competitions, and Inter‑School Coordination

  • Identify competitions, leagues, and friendly matches.

  • Coordinate logistics for fixtures and events.

  • Prepare students for competitions emphasizing effort, teamwork, and respect.

    Safeguarding, Safety, and Student Wellbeing

  • Uphold safeguarding and child protection policies.

  • Maintain safe supervision ratios and routines.

  • Conduct risk assessments for lessons and events.

  • Respond appropriately to injuries and wellbeing concerns.

    Equipment, Facilities, and Operations

  • Maintain sports equipment and inventories.

  • Monitor condition of sports areas and facilities.

  • Coordinate procurement of equipment and uniforms.

    Assessment, Documentation, and
    Communication

  • Track student participation and progress.

  • Provide constructive feedback.

  • Maintain schedules, attendance, and incident records.

  • Contribute to reporting and family communication.

    Qualifications and Experience

    Required

  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, Education, Coaching, Kinesiology, or related field.

  • Teaching qualification, coaching certification, or demonstrable PE teaching experience.

  • At least 3 years’ experience teaching PE or coordinating youth sports.

  • Experience with early years or primary‑aged children.

  • Strong knowledge of child development, movement skills, and inclusive PE practice.

  • Experience organizing sports clubs, fixtures, and extracurricular activities.

  • Ability to manage schedules, vendors, equipment, and logistics.

  • Commitment to safeguarding, child protection, and inclusion.

  • Strong English communication skills.

    Preferred

  • Experience in international or independent schools, IB PYP, or inquiry‑based education.

  • First aid, CPR, safeguarding, or sports safety certification.

  • Experience managing external coaches or vendors.

  • Experience building a school sports program.

  • Experience coordinating inter‑school fixtures and competitions.

  • Coaching experience in age‑appropriate sports (football, athletics, basketball, swimming, gymnastics, netball, tennis, dance, movement games).

  • Experience supporting inclusive sports participation for diverse learners.
