Job DutiesEditorial (Primary Role) Write multiple stories per week
Research news and potential news stories
Evaluate news, leads, and news tips to develop story ideas
Gather factual information regarding stories through interviews; check facts and additionally set up appointments
Stay in touch with sources/organizations about events/issues/news
Take tasks from editors and see their execution
Write stories according to prescribed editorial style and standards
Communicate with the editorial team in a variety of ways about the production of scheduled stories
Write news as well as features and other types of stories concisely, accurately coherently under deadline pressure
Publish finished works on the website through Word press
Share stories on Shega’s social media pages
Attend public meetings;
Make graphics/photos to illustrate stories by working cooperatively with the graphics team
Assist, supervise or help any new team members that join tShega
Assist and collaborate with other members of the Shega team
Research (Secondary Role)
Support client-based research/consulting projects
Continuously support and contribute to Shega Insight Data Room through submitting economy data, industry data, and business data that originate from the Media operation
Writing briefs, Case studies, and analysis pieces that will be published for premium members of Shega
Insight
Co-writing research results into articles.
Supporting additional project research, knowledge management, and other strategic support activities as needed.
Job Requirements
You would be a great fit for this role if:
You are passionate yet clear-eyed about the potential of Innovation to transform and impact life and business across Africa
You have an interest in writing content for the Innovation, Business, Technology, and Startups landscape and learning the ins and outs of many different industries.
You have strong analytical and excellent communication skills
You have great interpersonal skills and a sense of humor.
You have Bachelor’s degree.
You have good English writing skills and Fluency in Amharic is a must.
