Overall Responsibility and Job Purpose

  • Ensure successful delivery of the Agriculture market support (AMS) project through coordination, technical oversight, quality and timely implementation, reporting management of AMS project staff, maintain good relationships with Farmer Groups, ensure strategic partnerships with Development Partners and District local government, management of information flow, budgets, plans and donor contracts.

    Key Tasks and Responsibilities

    Coordination

    •Support the program manager in the design of implementation plans for efficient and effective delivery of the programme in line with the SAC vision and mission, understanding the implications to the funding budget.

    •For the delegated area of operation, coordinate all programme interventions and monitor progress and impact in the project.

    •Ensuring layering of AMS work on existing programs

    •Ensure that all stakeholders meet and review progress at regular intervals to ensure project and donor budgets, work-plans and outcomes are on target.

    •Liaise with DLGs on Joint Monitoring and follow-up of the project.

    •Participate in livelihood sector coordination, food security technical working groups and district development planning budget conference meetings organized by OPM in settlement:

  • Collaboration and coordination with district officials, office of the prime minister and other stakeholders

  • Participate in AMS periodic review and coordination meetings.

  • Ensure good networking and collaboration relationships with government and other development partners in the project area

    Reports

  • Compile and submit project and programme financial and narrative reports in a timely manner.

  • Provide information as required to ensure effective management of donor contract against plan, budget and log frame, timely delivery of reports.

  • Documentation of learning and best practices

    Management

  • Approve projects funds requests and accountability for the area of operation in accordance with project standards and budget.

  • Conduct appraisal of AMS staff.

    Supervision

  • Support strengthened collective action by smallholder farmers

  • Offer support to improve PHM practices and promote post-harvest technology adoption by smallholder farmers, groups, FOs and other market system actors.

  • Support increase in market access for groups and FOs

  • Conduct general awareness raising of nutrition, food quality and safety.

  • Participate in recruitment and selection of project staff and project extension workers. Supervise, mentor, coach and motivate staff in line with the SACU human resource policy and development programme objectives.

  • Oversight role during trainings in accordance with project plans (to include Community Facilitators etc)

  • Establish and develop good working relationship between SAC and the
    development groups in the project areas, confirming in an FLA; regularly monitor and assess the growth of the groups in line with SAC and WFP group development guidelines

    Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Agribusiness, Agro-Ecology, Agriculture Economics, Rural development, Agriculture and rural innovation and any other related qualification, Master’s degree in Business Administration majoring in marketing. Agricultural economics

    Experience

  • Rich field and community development work experience

  • Experience working in partnership or consortia arrangement.

  • Expansive knowledge in agriculture value chains

  • At least three years in a project management position.

  • Hands on experience managing management information system (MIS) and analysis MIS data

  • Vast experience in community saving groups

  • Experience of preparing, monitoring and managing budgets and work plans

  • Staff Management experience

  • Knowledge of environmental good practices

  • Experience working with small holder farmers

  • Experience in NGO work and on farm value chains

  • Experience in Fundraising, proposal writing and development.

  • Experience in research and development

    Skills

  • Strong people management ability

  • Good communication and presentation skills

  • strong skills in international donor report writing

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Strong networking skills.

  • Able to participate on a practical level with government and other development partners Ability to engage and foster strategic partnerships.
