Self Help Africa Call for Proposals for Grants in Kenya

Self Help Africa hereby invites duly registered agri-enterprises in Kenya to apply for financial support in the third call for applications.

About AgriFI Kenya Challenge Fund The AgriFI Kenya Challenge Fund is a € 18,000,000 initiative by the European Union to support productive and market-integrated smallholder agriculture through the provision of financial support to agri-enterprises.

The aim is to contribute to improvements in the capacity of smallholder farmers/pastoralists to practice environmentally sustainable and climate-smart agriculture as a business in inclusive value chains.

The programme is funded by the European Union, co -funded by SlovakAid and is implemented in parallel with a European Investment Bank (EIB) facility provided to Equity Bank (Kenya) Limited.

Self Help Africa and Imani Development Limited are the Fund Managers for the Challenge Fund.

Third call for applications This third and final Call for applications will have two Windows with Window 1 focusing on established medium sized agri-enterprises that meet the core AgriFI eligibility criteria.

Window 2 will specifically focus on smaller agri-enterprises in selected counties in Western, Nyanza, North Rift, South Rift, Northern and Coastal regions.

This Call for applications will allocate the financial support balance amount from Call land Call 2.

Applicants for Window 1 will receive financial support between € 200,000 and €750,000 while Window 2 will receive between € 100,000 and € 200,000.

The financial support given by AgriFI will cover up to 50% of the applicant's business proposal.

The balance must be financed from matching funds in the form of cash/cash equivalents, credit or equity

from external financiers.

Eligible agri-enterprises can seek match funding in the form of credit financing from Equity Bank (Kenya) Limited.

Eligibility criteria

  • The AgriFI Kenya Challenge Fund aims to support projects put forward by small and medium sized agri-enterprises with business models that integrate smallholder farmers/pastoralists into value chains.

    How to Apply
  • Complete concept notes must be submitted online via AfriCUBE.com in English language.
  • The deadline for the submission of concept notes is 20th November 2019 at 12.00 pm
  • Information sessions and webinars
  • To provide more information on this opportunity, Self Help Africa and partners will jointly hold 12 information sessions and two webinars.
  • The sessions will be held between 29th October to 6th November in the following counties: Kisii, Kisumu, Kericho, Kakamega, Kitale, Eldoret, Kilifi, Kwale, Kitui, Marsabit., Garissa and : Nanyuki. The webinars will be held on 7th and 11th November.
