Job Summary

  • As a key member of SCORE MWENDO programming team in the County, you will monitor and report on all project activities related to case management and service delivery with respect to OVC and their families in support of MWENDO’s work to ensure improved access to health and social services to the OVC and their families.

  • Your OVC service-oriented approach will ensure that the project consistently applies the Case Management approach to the delivery of quality and time bound services to the OVC and their families as well as enhance their participation in their best interest to constantly work towards improving the impact of the benefits to the project beneficiaries.

  • You will be reporting to SCORE MWENDO Project Coordinator, work and coordinate closely with other MWENDO Project staff, key staff from the relevant ministries, Community Health Volunteers (CHVs), and Link Desk Persons to contribute to a holistic, integrated, and comprehensive project implementation.

    About the Role

  • This role will be based at one of the SCORE’s Siaya Sub-Counties satellite offices in Alego Usonga, Gem, Ugunja or Ugenya.

  • Support the coordination, implementation, and monitoring of all assigned project activities as outlined in the LIP Detailed Implementation Plan in line with organizations principles and standards, donor and GoK requirements, good practices, ensuring project quality assurance and measurement of project outcomes.

  • Conduct regular home visits with CHVs to ascertain service provision to the project beneficiaries as well as providing support to the volunteers as package for care of carers.

  • Monitor and report any challenges and/or gaps identified to inform adjustments to plans and implementation schedules.

  • Collect and analyze project data per specified mechanisms and tools. Collaborate with other organization staff and volunteers to prepare reports per established reporting schedule and guidelines.

  • Provide technical support and monitor capacity building and technical support activities to the LCHVs, CHVs and Link Desk Persons to ensure effective and quality service provision.

  • Actively engage in identifying and documentation of project promising practices, case and human-interest stories, dissemination and use of relevant knowledge in the field.

  • Support the project volunteers in their efforts to reflect on project experiences.

  • Ensure a strong linkage exists between Children’s’ Department and SCORE.

  • Represent SCORE and MWENDO project in meetings at County, Sub-County, Ward and locational levels, working groups, and other events as requested, to support forging relations with the GoK, other stakeholders, community and project beneficiaries.

  • Develop and nurture relationships with relevant stakeholders in the field of Child support and development including local community structures, County Government, Childrens’ Department, MoH, CHVs and other likeminded partners.

  • In close collaboration with the M&E, ensure accuracy and timeliness of data collected from the CHVs.

  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of all assigned project activities per donor and CRS standards and established schedules.

  • Ensure community case workers (CCWs – project volunteers) complete required case management forms and ensure case filing system is developed and maintained.

  • Create community linkages for broader community engagement in case management.

  • Conduct joint support supervision with relevant GoK representatives to forge better working relationships.

    Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate Sub-County level OVC services

  • Collect and collate OVC project reports

  • Document best practices and develop periodic relevant reports as required

  • Ensures that the beneficiary OVC and their households are adequately served

  • Maintain OVC files and records

  • Follow up on education issues (e.g. school fees, performance, etc.)and other OVC and household benefits

  • Support in identification, recruitment and enrolment of OVC and other Community level Volunteers (e.g. CHVs, etc.)

  • Supervise VCOs and CHVs – Conduct capacity
    assessments, mentorship, OJT and capacity building of CHVs and VCOs.

  • Convene and conduct cluster (Sub-County) meetings with the assigned CHVs

  • Collect and validate data from CHVs – in charge of data quality

  • Conduct sampled household visits on targeted beneficiaries

  • Represent the CHVs at the organization (SCORE) meetings

  • Conduct the TNA on the CHVs and build their capacity in areas of need.

  • Support appropriate referrals of targeted households and OVC.

  • Identify the training needs and train the Households as appropriate

  • Support the VCOs and CHVs to implement the Case management plans at HH level

  • Carry out other SCORE responsibilities as appropriate/called upon (e.g. assisting with kitchen gardens, organizing child recreation, etc.)

  • Support the CHVs to complete OVC project paperwork: records of visits and OVC information, with assistance from M&E Officer.

  • Confirm with the M&E department for complete details and documentation of OVC and their HHs in the system.

  • Attend SCORE meetings and participate with opinions and ideas.

  • Facilitates community mobilization and sensitization on project issues.

  • Ensure the OVC documentation is up to date – file 100% updated

  • Confirmation and validation of follow up on the defaulters and exits.

  • Identify networks and links the HHs/ groups appropriately

  • Facilitate the HH vulnerability assessment and transition as appropriate.

  • Support Linkage of OVC HHs to Community Units for continuum of care.

  • Facilitate OVC HTS, follow up and linkage to facility link persons.

  • Identification, and assigning the CHVs as facility link persons to support HTS and follow ups.

    Qualification / Background, Experience and Requirements:

    Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Science, International Development, Community Development or a related field or a Diploma holder with 3 years’ experiencein Social Work, Community Health Nursing, Public Health or its equivalent from a recognized institution.

  • Minimum 3 years post training working experience.

  • Minimum 2 years work experience in project support in the field of OVC, HIV/AIDS and other health-related projects in Kenya and for an NGO.

  • In-depth understanding of program results, outcomes, impact, and reporting.

  • Experience in participatory action planning and engagement of stakeholders at various levels.

  • Experience monitoring projects and collecting relevant data preferred.

  • Excellent understating of GoK and PEPFAR OVC guidelines and standards.

  • Experience using MS Windows and MS Office packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

  • Experience working with the rural community A MUST

  • Knowledge and experience of Siaya County will be an added advantage.

  • Good relationship management skills and the ability to work closely with GoK, non-GoK partners and community members and beneficiaries with minimal supervision

  • Attention to details, accuracy and timeliness in executing assigned responsibilities

  • Proactive, results-oriented and service-oriented

  • Ability to work under deadlines and meet strict donor deadlines

    Required Language

  • Able to clearly communicate in written and spoken English and local language

    Travel Required

  • Up to 75% of travel time to SCORE MWENDO project sites
