Job Summary

  • The SLL Regional Coordinator will work closely with the Evaluation Coordinator and the PI to ensure smooth implementation of the SLL project activities in Oromia region.

  • The SLL Regional Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing and supervising the effective integration of the SLL micro-plan in the RHB annual plans, implementation and monitoring of the SLL activities detailed in the micro-plan and generation and use of relevant project qualitative and quantitative data.

    Specific roles and responsibilities include

  • Under guidance of the PI coordinate the SLL support to the regional health bureau to effectively design and develop SLL implementation strategies and micro-plans to ensure successful implementation of the SLL packages across the hospital-health center-community continuum in the Oromia region
    Monitor implementation progress of the activities and interventions by reviewing, verifying and analyzing the micro-plan for Oromia; work with the implementation support assistants to develop and submit periodic and regular progress reports on the implementation status of the SLL micro-plans in the region
    Develop schedule and facilitate organization of Regional Implementation Coordination Team meetings, serve as a secretary for the regular meetings, preparing meeting agenda and minutes
    Closely work with the National SLL scale-up Coordinator to effectively coordinate the implementation and facilitation of clinical mentorship trainings for labor and delivery, KMC/NICU, QI professionals in the region
    Ensure implementation of key SLL activities: clinical mentorship, provision of equipment and supplies to health facilities, renovation of NICU/KMC units of the health facilities, provision of monitoring and evaluation visits to the hospitals,

  • Ensure integration of SLL interventions within the regional health bureau annual plans and alignment of programs of health development partners
    on care for preterm and low birth weight infants

  • Work with relevant regional health bureau departments to regular reporting of relevant indicators on care for preterm and LBW infants through the DHIS2

    Job Requirements

    Basic Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in public health or related field required with at least three years of experience with progressive responsibility in large-scale research coordinator

  • Demonstrated experience managing staff and coordinating planning and implementation research project activities.

  • Familiarity with the Ethiopian health system, Ethiopian Ministry of Health and Regional Health Bureaus preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience in supervision of data collection, evaluation of programs/interventions, and data quality.

  • Written and verbal fluency in English required. Written and spoken fluency in Afan Oromo and Amharic languages is required.

  • Strong writing skills and exceptional oral and written communication skills required.

    Additional Qualifications

  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, supervisory, and organizational skills necessary. Ability to handle and prioritize multiple project activities, balance conflicting priorities, and handle confidential information appropriately.

  • Must exhibit tact and diplomacy in inter-cultural settings.

  • Prior field research and academic experience related to maternal and newborn health in Ethiopia is desirable.

  • Exceptional organizational skills, ability to prioritize multiple tasks, and careful attention to detail.

  • Prior experience working with electronic data collection and online databases, and demonstrated experience managing databases.
