Job Summary

  • The Data Manager will work closely with the Evaluation Coordinator to manage the monitoring and evaluation data from the SLL project.

  • Data Manager will be responsible for managing the data collected by three project teams (evaluation, program learning, and implementation support teams) to ensure the generation and management of the data from the project maintains high quality standards.

  • The position will be given significant responsibility for the development and implementation of data collection tools, data quality assurance mechanisms and rapid and rigorous data analysis methods.

    Specific roles and responsibilities include

  • Under guidance of the PI and supervision by the Evaluation Coordinator develop co-design, test and implement electronic SLL monitoring and evaluation data capturing, analysis and reporting system for the data from the four implementation regions

  • Manage data collected across all three project teams (evaluation, program learning and implementation support teams)

  • In collaboration with three team leads refine the electronic data capture system, manage data collected and oversee data quality

  • Work closely with the three team leads to design solutions to resolve queries in the data collection process

  • Report with regular data reviews and frequent quality control checks

  • Contribute to data analysis and interpretation of evaluation findings

  • Provide support to the SLL regional scale-up coordinators on data management, analysis, and interpretation of findings

    Job Requirements

    Basic Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in statistics, biostatistics, or related field with at least three years of experience or bachelor degree in statistics, biostatistics,
    or related field with six years of experience with progressive responsibility in large-scale research data management

  • Demonstrated experience managing staff and planning and implementation data management activities.

  • Familiarity with the Ethiopian health system, Ethiopian Ministry of Health and Regional Health Bureaus preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience in supervision of data collection, evaluation of programs/interventions, and data quality.

  • Knowledge of statistical methods and software packages frequently used in public health research

  • Written and verbal fluency in English required. Written and spoken fluency in Afan Oromo and Amharic languages is desired.

  • Strong writing skills and exceptional oral and written communication skills required.

    Additional Qualifications

  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, supervisory, and organizational skills necessary.

  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple project activities, balance conflicting priorities, and handle confidential information appropriately.

  • Must exhibit tact and diplomacy in inter-cultural settings.

  • Prior field research and academic experience related to maternal and newborn health in Ethiopia is desirable.

  • Exceptional organizational skills, ability to prioritize multiple tasks, and careful attention to detail.

  • Prior experience working with electronic data collection and online databases, and demonstrated experience managing databases.
