  • A leading diagnostics provider is seeking to recruit for the position of Histo technologist.

  • The ideal candidate MUST be registered with KMLTTB and have a valid 2021 practice license & have at least 2 years relevant working experience in a busy environment.

    Job Duties Include:

  • Performs routine tissue embedding, microtomy and staining following established procedures.

  • Perform immunohistochemistry staining with manual and automated methods as per established laboratory procedures.

  • Prepares reagents following established procedures.

  • Grossing of histopathology specimens with assistance of the surgical pathologist
    Prepare cytology samples, such as Papanicolaou (PAP) smear, body fluids and fine needle aspirations (FNAs), to detect abnormal conditions

  • Assist the pathologist or other physicians to collect cell samples such as by fine needle aspiration (FNA) biopsies.

  • Maintains documentation of workload volume and appropriate records as required by the department, company and various regulatory agencies.

  • Maintains an up to date block files and slide archival system

  • Maintains accuracy with correct patient tissue on appropriate assigned slides.

  • Performs special staining procedures offered in histology and cytology

  • Researches, troubleshoots and resolves inquiries or problems within the laboratory
    Development, annual review and updating of standard operating procedures established in the laboratory

  • Performs reagent QC on routinely used reagents and troubleshoots reagent and instrument failures.

  • Develops stain troubleshooting skills and develops trouble shooting skills.

  • Assists with other non-technical duties within the laboratory as requested by the supervisor/manager to meet immediate needs of laboratory.

  • Performs routine maintenance on laboratory equipment in designated area. This includes cleaning equipment, minor troubleshooting and
    reporting any irregularities in operation to supervisor/manager.

  • Maintains appropriate records as required by laboratory, company and various regulatory agencies.

  • Communicate urgent/critical tests results and maintain appropriate documentation

  • Adheres to the laboratory’s safety policies.

  • Maintains adequate stock of working supplies, notifies team leader or supervisor of shortage.

  • Helps with inventory procedures.

  • Participates in required continued education activities.

  • Additional duties as assigned.

    Requirements

  • Applicants for the position must have a Certificate in histotechnology/Higher Diploma in Histology /Cytology and Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences from a recognized institution.

  • S/he must have two (2) years relevant working experience and must be registered by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technologists and Technician Board

  • Ability to work independently in a team environment

  • Strong ability to problem-solve

  • Attention to detail

  • Good communication skills

  • Proficient in computers and IT
