Save the Children Regional Child Rights Governance (CRG) Advisor for ESA Jobs in Kenya


  • The Regional (CRG) Technical Advisor will use their in-depth contextual understanding, technical expertise, and relationship building skills to provide a critical link between the Save the Children's global and country level technical work, strengthening our technical offer at the regional level.

  • The role will contribute to building capacity and fostering networks across country office technical experts. The role supports regional advocacy and influencing, and contributes to strategic partnerships for new business development. It provides input into the design and implementation of monitoring and evaluation systems to demonstrate impact, while sharing learning across country offices, and ensuring quality of our programmes.

  • The role provides support to the sourcing of technical assistance for country office in both emergency and development programming. This role includes a strong focus on internal coordination and external representation on priority issues including empowering children to claim their political and civil rights, promoting civil society voice and space, child centered social accountability, public financial management and how it impacts public investment in children.

  • In relation to the above, a particular focus for the Advisor will be support to the Swedish International Development Agreement (SIDA) partnership framework (the "SIDA CSO Framework"). This will centre on providing 50% of his/her technical support to five country offices (Ethiopia, Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Zambia), the SIDA CSO Framework funded Regional Programming Unit (RPU), partners (where relevant), to ensure a strong CRG programming and advocacy under the SIDA CSO Framework.

    In order to be successful, you will bring/have:

    Essential

  • Master's degree in in political science, social science, international development or relations, public administration, governance, law, human rights, or similar, or equivalent experience.

  • Professional qualification in law, public administration, public financial management, social policy.

    Experience and Skills

  • At least 7 years' experience of working internationally in the design and implementation of programmes on child rights governance, human rights (preferably children's rights), social accountability or public investment

  • Understanding of the Child Rights and the Governance sectors in East & Southern Africa region

  • Familiar with some or all of the following tools: political economy analyses, gender analyses, child rights situation analyses, and participatory
    research methodologies. Also familiar with human rights led approaches to programming (and particularly child rights programming approaches). As well as one or all of the following conceptual frameworks Child Rights and Business Principles or '.

  • Familiar with applying rights-based approaches into programme design and implementation. Also, with integration of human rights and governance as foundational components education, health & nutrition, child protection or social protection, programmes.

  • Significant experience in training, capacity building, and mentoring.

  • Experience of the regional context, capacity and policy analysis, and influencing and advocacy at regional/international level in order to hold duty bearers to account to realise children's rights.

  • Skilled at networking, representation and partnership development in order promote learning, strengthen civil society and mobilise resources.

  • Able to generate and use data and evidence to innovate, deliver, learn and share what works and what doesn't work for children.

  • Experience of promoting quality and impact through at least one cross-cutting area: gender equality and inclusion, adaptive and safer programming; disability; migration and displacement.

  • Demonstrated program design, monitoring and evaluation skills, including designing pathways to sustainable impact at scale.

  • Track record in successful business development/fundraising and donor engagement with regional donors as relevant and other donors, such as SIDA, DANIDA, NORAD Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Netherlands, USAID / DoS, UK FCDO, Irish Aid, Global Affairs Canada, Green Climate Fund, World Bank & African Development Bank, EU EIDHR, EU CSO EU Instrument contributing to Stability & Peace, Ford Foundation, Open Society Institute & corporate foundations.

  • Experience of strategy development and planning.

  • Fluent in English and high level of English writing skills.
