In Uganda, we implement programs in five thematic program areas of Child Protection, Child Rights Governance, Education, Child Poverty, Health and Nutrition in Development and Emergency contexts.

Save the Children delivers programs in over 36 districts in the North, Rwenzori, North-Eastern, West Nile and Central regions of Uganda.

Role Purpose:

  • The jobholder is responsible and accountable for the overall management and implementation of education program in the region.
  • Project Manager is responsible for new partnership initiation, development and management of program implementation plans, budgetary and financial management, program and financial reporting, human resources management, and administrative trouble shooting and support within the region.
  • Technical program management and implementation responsibilities include developing project plans, budgets and implementation plans, managing the accomplishment of targeted results and indicators, oversee program budgets and accounts to ensure adherence to approved budget and work plans, undertaking routine budget monitoring and budget revisions, leading in the definition of M&E plans and indicators, monitoring and supervising sub recipient partners, prepa ring timely and high quality programme and financial reports, and taking initiatives and actions to ensure that program implementation is in compliance with all Save the Children and donor requirements, rules and regulations.
  • In addition, the manager will ensure effective representation liaison between Save the Children and other INGOs, CSOs, Local Authorities and visiting donors and stakeholders at the local and regional level to promote extensive participation and complementary of Save the Children program and activities.

    Qualification and Experience;

    Required:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Education.
  • Postgraduate training/Advanced degree in the related field, Social sciences/social works, or Management is an added advantage
  • A Post graduate Diploma in Project Planning, Management and Evaluation would an added advantage
  • Having at least two years of teaching experience in primary schools or working on Basic Education and ECD.
  • Must be willing to be based in Karamoja.

    Essential:
  • A minimum of five years working experience in Education related program or protection in Uganda (preferably with an International NGO).
  • Experience in managing a budget of at least US$ 700,000
  • Experience of working with local partners and District Local Government in, Education, and community based services
  • Strong monitoring, evaluation and accountability skills
  • Ability to speak local language (Ekarimajong) is a must
  • Must be willing to be based in Karamoja.
  • Ability to establish and maintain conducive
    collegial relations and perform effectively as a member of a team.
  • Excellent planning, coordination and reporting skills, with the ability to organize a substantial workload comprised of complex, diverse tasks and responsibilities
  • Computer literacy and excellent documentation skills are a must.
  • Willingness to travel and work in hard-to-reach areas, occasionally under strenuous conditions.

    Desirable:
  • Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Ability to intervene with crisis management or troubleshooting as necessary.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching
  • Excellent time management and planning capacity
  • Availability and willingness to work extra hours during times of humanitarian responses.
  • Thorough understanding of Save the Children working principles and approaches of Child Participation, Child Rights Programming, Partnership, Child Safeguarding, Zero Tolerance to fraud , Monitoring and Evaluation, Programme Integration etc.
