PCIC Advocacy Coordinator under the guidance of the Senior Programme Manager - PCIC, Programe Manager -CRG, The Director, Pan African Advocacy Office and the ESA and WCA Advocacy Directors will support efficient and effective implementation of advocacy components of RPU Protection of Children in Conflict (PCIC) Programme, and Child Rights Governance (CRG) Programme, especially focusing on national, sub-regional and regional levels.

He/she will be responsible in tracking and supporting the development and implementation of RPU's specific PCIC advocacy strategies and initiatives targeting the AU, RECs/RMs, Government and other institutional policies and practice to achieve positive and lasting changes to children in situations of armed conflict.

Qualifications and experience Essential

  • Educated to degree level in International Relations or Law
  • 5-7 years' Regional level experience working/engagement with the AU, IGAD, EAC, ECOWAS, or other Regional Mechanisms- work in peace and security and/ or children in armed conflict would be an advantage.
  • Research and analysis experience
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, including the ability to communicate to people of different cultural backgrounds
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is essential; skills in other languages especially French would be an advantage Organised, with an ability to meet deadlines and high standards of quality
  • Ability to manage small and medium sized projects, with appropriate support
  • Ability to multitask in a fast paced environment
    Willingness to work with a rapidly-changing set of priorities
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to manage own workload, with some supervision
  • A high level of computer literacy
  • Enthusiastic, proactive with a 'can do' attitude
  • A good understanding and interest in peace and security, children in armed conflict, communications, advocacy, humanitarian and development issues
