Save the Children NGO MEAL Coordinator Employment Opportunities in Uganda

Responsibilities

  • The Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) Coordinator will lead the implementation of Save the Children's MEAL activities in the field on the Apolou Activity, on which Save the Children is a sub-awardee to Mercy Corps.
  • The MEAL Coordinator will be responsible for designing routine monitoring forms, overseeing data collection, compiling and aggregating data, maintaining databases, generating descriptive statistics, and providing support to surveys and evaluation as well as learning and accountability system for Save the Children's technical interventions and impact on the Apolou Activity.
  • The MEAL Coordinator will also provide technical lead on reporting for Apolou.
  • In addition, the job holder ensures that quality bench marks are used during implementation of Apolou activities and puts in place a tailor made documentation strategy for impact stories, reports, and best practices and makes sure that lessons learned feed into the Apolou planning processes.

    Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Bio Statistics, Public Health, Sociology with a bias in health/WASH sector or Development Studies with Post Graduate training in M&E or Project planning and Management.
  • Minimum of three years working experience in monitoring and evaluation working experience
  • Experience collecting data through quantitative household surveys (ideally in Karamoja)
  • Experience interviewing community members and leaders and/or facilitating focus group discussions
  • Knowledge of data analysis principles and software (ideally SPSS, STATA, R, ArcGIS, NVivo, and/or ATLAS.ti)
  • Familiarity with mobile data collection platforms (like Kobo Collect, Epi Info, IForm builder, etc).

    Desirable

  • Experience with monitoring and evaluation techniques to assess the quality and effectiveness of program strategies for program learning
  • Previous experience with WASH, adolescent, and/or behavior change programming preferred

    Responsibilities

  • The Job Holder will take responsibility for planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of the Northern Uganda Basic Education (NUBE) Project to improve children's learning outcomes and development through implementation of the QLE Framework.
  • The QLE Framework has 4 pillars: Guiding Principle 1 - emotional and psychological needs of all learners; Guiding Principle 2 - learning environment must protect children's physical wellbeing; Guiding Principle 3 - learning environment encourages and supports active engagements for learners, child-centered teaching and improved learning outcomes for all learners; Guiding Principle 4 - parents and local communities are actively involved in planning, decision making and action to improve education.
  • The job holder may be called upon as and when necessary to support the emergency team in cases of humanitarian crisis.

    Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Degree in Education, Social Work, Social Administration, Psychology, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or any relevant field and a Post graduate Diploma in Project Planning, Management and Evaluation
  • At least three (3) years experience of working with an International
    NGO with budget management and monitoring responsibilities.
  • At least two (2) years experience with good understanding of Community Education and training skills (Training of Trainers) particularly Non-Formal Education

    Desirable

  • Excellent report writing skills and experience in generating Donor compliant reports of high quality.
  • Ability to speak local language and directly interact with target group will be an added advantage
  • Strong analytical skills and strategic planning abilities.
  • Willingness to travel and work in hard-to-reach areas, occasionally under strenuous conditions.

    Save the Children NGO Construction Officer Employment Opportunities in Uganda

    Responsibilities

  • To support the construction of structures at field level.
  • The position holder shall support the construction supervisor to ensure that construction works are professionally done in accordance to the designs and specifications with regards to quality, cost, time, and safety.
  • This involves close liaison with logistics, procurement, and senior program officers in the program, as well as coordination with other operational agencies in our areas.
  • The role will require approximately 60% time in the field site and 40% time at the field offices.

    Qualifications

  • A minimum of a higher diploma in Civil and Building engineering or any relevant discipline.
  • A minimum of 2 years working experience in handling construction projects generally and in emergency situation or conflict/post conflict situations in a reputable organisation, preferably an international NGO.
  • Experience of working with local partners and District Local Government in Humanitarian interventions.
  • Ability to speak local language and directly interact with target group will be an added advantage.
  • Strong analytical skills and strategic planning abilities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain conducive collegial relations and perform effectively as a member of a team.
  • Willingness to travel and work in hard-to-reach areas, occasionally under strenuous conditions.
  • Computer literacy and excellent documentation skills are a must.
  • Availability and willingness to work extra hours during peak times of humanitarian responses.
