In Uganda, we implement programmes in five thematic programme areas of Child Protection, Child Rights Governance, Education, Child Poverty, Health and Nutrition in Development and Emergency contexts.

The Adolescent Advisor provides strategic direction and technical management for the planning and implementation of the multi-sectoral adolescent activities and ensure the project meets stated goals, expected result and reporting requirements.
This staff will take technical and management leadership role in coordination with local government, local community organizations, and other partners and will oversee and manage the adolescent-focused work of the project across four eastern districts of the Karamoja sub-region (Kaabong, Kotido, Moroto and Amudat).
The Adolescent Advisor will be the primary driver of the adolescent safe space model under the project, which will use a small group approach to reach adolescents age 10-19 with age-segmented content (with a primary focus on 10-14 year olds).
Through this approach, the project will give at least 22,400 young people civic and transferable, sexual and reproductive health, nutrition, WASH, and foundational numeracy and literacy skills.
The Adolescent Advisor will take a leading role in the development of materials and work plans for the adolescent component, and will be responsible for ensuring high quality implementation, including overseeing the training of mentors.
The Adolescent Advisor will directly manage the AD component of the Apolou Project budget. The role will also oversee and manage the work of four Adolescent Coordinators across four districts of Karamoja to ensure successful implementation of the adolescent component.
The staff will also ensure the adolescent component has strong alignment and linkages with the project SBC framework, and is well aligned with the other project components to support achievement of the health and nutrition goal. Contract Duration: Open
Contractual Status: National
Qualification and Experience;
Minimum Bachelor’s degree required. Post-graduate education (master’s or higher) in public health or related field is preferred.
At least 7-10 years implementing adolescent development, adolescent literacy and numeracy, adolescent livelihoods programming, health promotion, family planning, MCH, and/or similar programs in Uganda
Experience with small- group or “safe spaces” programs for adolescents
Experience working on multisectoral programs for adolescents (i.e. programs that include health, livelihoods, and education)
Experience with adolescent behavior change material and curriculum development.
Demonstrated experience in contribution in adolescent health and development strategy and materials development, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of ASRH interventions.
Demonstrated problem solving skills, collaboration experience, creativity and willingness to innovate;
Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to lead and work effectively in team situations;
Familiarity and understanding of USAID policies and procedures, or those of other donors, or those of donor-funded projects or community-based projects;
Familiarity with government ministries and policies regarding adolescent development programming
Fluent oral and strong analytical, written English communication skills is required;

Willingness to be based in the Karamoja sub-region (Moroto
Prior experience working in Karamoja sub-region highly desired
Ability to communicate in local languages in Karamoja sub-region
